If you didn’t watch Saved By The Bell during the ‘80s and ‘90s…can you really call yourself retro? Saved By The Bell was the ultimate teen sitcom, and let’s be honest, we all wanted to be a student at Bayside High. We wanted to be best friends with Kelly, we wanted Zack to be our boyfriend, and we wanted to watch Max perform his magic trick. But alas, we just had to watch from afar. But whatever happened to them when school broke up for the last time..check out the Saved By The Bell cast – then and now.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Zack Morris – Then
Oooooh, we just really loved Zack. He was so charming. He was so beautiful. And he was so rebellious. We couldn’t help but love a bad boy back in the day. Zack was the ultimate joker, he pranked his friends, the principal, and gets every girl he wants. (Even though we wished it was us). But towards the end, there’s only one woman for Zack – Kelly. And they even got married. Awwww. (We kinda hated her a bit for that)
Mark-Paul Gosselaar – Now
Yep, he’s still a stud muffin. And we still really fancy him. In 2014, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, along with a few more of his Saved By The Bell co-stars reprised their roles in a hilarious skit with Jimmy Fallon on The Late Night Show. Since his Bayside days, Gosselaar has since appeared on both the stage and screen, and has recently starred as the main protagonist in the FOX series, Pitch.
Mario Lopez as A.C Slater – Then
Ohhhh, Mario. Look at that face. How can you not love it?! A.C Slater was the star wrestler of Bayside School, and was infamous for his curly locks and his muscles – which we definitely didn’t check out once or one hundred times. He was (obviously) a hit with the ladies, had a bit of a fling with Kelly, but in the end realized that he just really loved Jessie.
Mario Lopez – Now
Okay, it’s kind of weird how Mario Lopez doesn’t look like he’s aged AT ALL. Although we are kinda glad that he cut off that mullet hair cut. But how is he still so beautiful?! Lopez is still acting today, but is now focusing more on his hosting talent. During the US X Factor run between 2012 until 2014, Lopez hosted the show by himself, and with Khloe Kardashian, and now spends most of his time hosting the iHeartRadio Countdown. As if this wasn’t enough, Lopez has also published three books about fitness and healthy living. Is there anything he can’t do?!
Elizabeth Berkley as Jessie Spano – Then
Jessie Soprano was the kind of girl that all of us wanted to be. And even our parents would want us to be like her. Jessie is all for her academics, and excels in everything she can do at school. (Yeah, that wasn’t like us). Despite her academic prowess, her storylines mostly focused on her on and off again relationship with Slater – and we just loved to watch it unfold.
Elizabeth Berkley – Now
After leaving Saved By The Bell, Berkley focused her attention on breaking into the movie business, and landed her first major role in Showgirls. Since then, she has starred in various movies and TV shows, as well as landing her first hosting gig. Alongside her acting career, Berkley has set up her own self-help program website, where she regularly discusses women’s issues, it was even made into a reality series, and she has since written her own self-help book aimed at teenage girls. Girl power!
Dustin Diamond as Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers – Then
Screech is one of the only characters who was there from the beginning of the franchise, in the Good Morning, Miss Bliss days. And we loved him. He was wacky. He was quirky. And he is actually really cool, despite the fact everyone else picks on him. He tries to find love through Lisa, but eventually falls in love with Violet, his fellow geek. Aw, geek love.
Dustin Diamond – Now
Dustin Diamond is still mostly known for his role on Saved By The Bell, but has also appeared on various reality TV shows like Celebrity Boxing 2 and The Weakest Link. However, it seems like he hasn’t been the best for Diamond after his Bayside High days, and he was arrested in 2014 for possession of a weapon, and was connected to a bar stabbing. In 2015, he was then convicted again and was sentenced to four months in prison. He was released on bail, but violated his probation and was arrested again in 2016. Oops.
Lark Voorhies as Lisa Turtle – Then
Yep, this is the Lisa that Screech pursues for most of the series. Lisa Turtle is the materialistic and self-obsessed character that every ‘90s sitcom has to have. She loves clothes, she loves what she looks like, and she has the money to do what she wants with it. She goes on to study fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
Lark Voorhies – Now
Since her time on Saved By The Bell, Lark Voorhies has mostly carried on her career within TV sitcoms, appearing in Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and she even appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. She has also appeared in music videos and has even been the lead singer of her own band. Alongside this, Voorhies has also self-published three of her own books.
Tiffani Thiessen as Kelly Kapowski – Then
Don’t get us wrong, we really really liked Kelly and thought she was absolutely lovely. But she had Zack. And we didn’t. So we had to hold something against her. But before she eventually ends up with the most coveted guy in school, Kelly was pretty popular with the guys too. She was the head cheerleader, absolutely stunning, and just had everything. We were so jealous.
Tiffani Thiessen – Now
After her time on Saved By The Bell, Thiessen went on to star in another of the biggest ‘90s TV shows – Beverly Hills, 90210. She has since appeared in various films, including Woody Allen’s Hollywood Ending, and even started her own cooking show on the Cooking Channel, called ‘Dinner at Tiffani’s.’ Can we come? We always wanted to hang out with the head cheerleader of Bayside High…
Dennis Haskins as Mr. Richard Belding – Then
Just like Screech, Mr. Belding was also with the show from the beginning. Although he doesn’t really get along with the boys of the show (they cause him way too much trouble), he was the kind of man who you just couldn’t help but love. Even the boys had a little soft spot for him – even if they wouldn’t admit it.
Dennis Haskins – Now
Dennis Haskins stayed on within the Saved By The Bell franchise throughout its whole run, and seemed to love playing the beloved Mr. Belding. He even joined Gosselaar, Lopez, Berkley and Thiessen on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for their 2015 skit. He’s even released his own album which was called ‘Karaoke With Your Favorite Principal Dennis’ – which is just too cool. In 2016, he starred alongside the Saved By The ‘90s theme band. He’ll always be Mr. Belding to us…
Ed Alonzo as Max – Then
Max was the coolest, and wackiest character in Saved By The Bell. He only appeared in the first two seasons of the show, but we loved him so much we decided to include him. He was the owner of the gang’s hangout spot, The Max (what a creative name) and loves to show his magic tricks to the other characters. Despite his goofy demeanor, he does often give them pretty sound advice.
Ed Alonzo – Now
Ed Alonzo is basically still like Max from Saved By The Bell. He is still a professional magician and is as quirky as ever. He tours around the country as a magician and has even worked alongside David Blaine, Michael Jackson, Katy Perry and Britney Spears. How cool is that?! He has also guest starred on shows like Xuxa, Full House and Murphy Brown.
