One is very amused…

Let’s be honest, The Crown is the greatest thing since sliced bread – and that’s really saying something, because sliced bread is da bomb diggity. Yuh-huh, this historical drama series follows the life of the British royal family, and it’s safe to say that we’re pretty darn obsessed with the show, and our newfound love for tea and scones (is it a scone as in gone? Or scone as in gnome? You decide). So far, we’ve binge-watched the first two seasons on Netflix and watched as Queen Elizabeth II made her way through her royal childhood and her later ascent to the throne, but now that we’re waiting in the wings of Buckingham Palace for a brand new season, we’re left wondering what else there is to watch. Luckily, these TV shows like The Crown will get you royally excited…

TV Shows Like The Crown

The Crown is one of the most popular historical dramas on our screens right now, and even those who aren’t remotely interested in history and the royal family have bundled themselves onto their couches and watched Claire Foy and Matt Smith adorn their pretty little heads with crowns. Yet, there’s only so many times you can re-watch the first two seasons, so it’s probably about time you checked out these other TV shows like The Crown.

Victoria (2016 – Present Day)

TV Shows Like The Crown: Victoria
If you love The Crown, you’ll love Victoria – because it’s basically the same show just years earlier! Instead of following the life of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and Princess Margaret, this show follows another famous royal. Queen Victoria. Heck yes! The story picks up after the death of her father, when she has no choice but to take over the throne at the tender age of 18 years old. Could you imagine ruling a whole country and commonwealth before your 20th birthday? Nah, we thought not, so you should probably see it for yourself.

Downton Abbey (2010 – 2015)

TV Shows Like The Crown: Downton Abbey
Although we (of course) love Queen Lizzie in The Crown, we couldn’t help but fall in love with Princess Margaret and shed a few tears when she had to say goodbye to the lovable hunk, Captain Peter Townsend. However, if you loved this kinda upstairs-downstairs vibe within their relationship, you’ll love Downton Abbey. This British period drama shows the difference between the aristocrats and the servants, and sees them meshing together in a way they would have never thought possible back in those days. If you’re looking for a TV show like The Crown, you’ve found your winner.

Gunpowder (2017 – 2017)

TV Shows Like The Crown: Gunpowder
There are countless TV shows like The Crown in the world (thank goodness), but there is only one that gives you history and the legendary acting skills of Kit Harington. You know, the one who stars on that show you might have heard of. Game of Stones? Game of Swords? Well, yeah, that one. Although this series has just three episodes to its name, it’s well worth a watch. Kit Harington stars as the young Robert Catesby, who finds himself in the midst of a political feud in 17th Century England. In fact, this feud lands him in the midst of the notorious Guy Fawkes…

Call the Midwife (2012 – Present Day)

TV Shows Like The Crown: Call the Midwife
If the above doesn’t tickle your pickle and you’re looking for another TV show like The Crown, you might want to check out the British show, Call the Midwife. This show takes you back in time to 1950s London, and follows the lives of nuns who work as sisters and midwives in a local hospital. As they deal with life in postwar Britain and a fast-paced environment, they suddenly find their lives flipped upside down. This show will make you laugh, will make you cry, will make you smile and make you want to hurl a cushion at the television. It’s incredible.

Of course, nothing will ever replace The Crown from our lives, and we can’t wait to see what season three has to bring us. However, the cast has yet to even begin filming the next season, so it’s fair to say that we’re going to have a lot of time on our hands from now until its release date… which is why we’re going to get the most out of these TV shows like The Crown.
