It doesn’t take a genius to realize what Narcos is all about – as the clue is basically in the title. Yep, this show follows the life of the infamous Cali Cartel, ran by the notorious Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria (you have to say the whole name every time, it’s part of the deal). With their illicit narcotics dealings, intense personal rivalries, a heck load of violence and even a *little* bit of romance thrown in for good measure, you watch as the American DEA try to take down the untouchable kingpin. But if you can’t wait for season four to be released, then check out these TV shows like Narcos for when you need to decide between plata o plomo… (okay, hopefully you won’t have to decide between those two).
TV Shows Like Narcos
Narcos isn’t the kind of TV show that you’ll look forward to watching on a lazy, sunny afternoon – you might want to look at our Movies Like Grease That Go Together Like Rama Lama Lama Ka Dinga Da Dinga Dong (yeah, we’re funny). Instead, Narcos is full of adrenaline, violence, rivalry, and more, and you really need to be in the right frame of mind to watch men go at it for the sake of a *few* bags of the white stuff. Yet, once you’re in that frame of mind you’ll never want to go back, so you’ll need these TV shows similar to Narcos.
Breaking Bad (2008 – 2013)
If you love Narcos, you’ll love Breaking Bad. This show starts off pretty normally, and you just think you’re going to watch a TV show about a struggling teacher and his woes with life. Oh, how wrong we were! With an inoperable cancer diagnosis under his belt, Walter White soon realizes that he needs to provide for his family in the long run – and teaching just doesn’t do that. So what does he do? Well, he starts up a thriving Crystal Meth business, of course. However, before too long he finds himself too far down the rabbit hole…
The Wire (2002 – 2008)
The best part of The Wire is that each of the five seasons are different – which is great if you get bored easily. Although the majority of the characters stay the same, it focuses on different aspects of crime in the city of Baltimore. You can expect illegal narcotics deals, crime in the education system, crime within the government, and more. As if that wasn’t enough, this urban crime drama also portrays some pretty hot-headed cops and criminals that make it even more entertaining.
Power (2014 – Present)
If you’re looking for a TV show similar to Narcos, look no further, because we’ve found the big one. Power premiered in 2014 and is still going strong today (thank goodness). Produced by none other than 50 Cent himself, this show follows the life of James St. Patrick, or ‘Ghost,’ as he goes about his life as the owner of a popular New York nightclub.Yet, all isn’t as it seems, as Ghost also lives a double life as one of the biggest narcotics dealers in the city. Although he wants to leave the narcotics business, it’s not as easy as it sounds…
El Chapo (2017 – Present)
As the hosts of Narcos, Netflix has really honed in on the fact that everyone loves the show – which is why more and more TV shows like Narcos are popping up all over the place. One of the most impressive additions is El Chapo. This TV show follows the life of the infamous Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, as he starts off his narcotics career in the low ranks of the Guadalajara Cartel, before rising through the ashes and taking a seat at the head of the Sinaloa Cartel. Can he manage to stay at the top?
Hatfields and McCoys (2012 – 2012)
If you loved Narcos, we can guarantee that you will love Hatfields and McCoys. Although only a three-part miniseries, it’s well worth a watch, as it features all of the real-life historical accuracy we know and love from Pablo and the gang. This show follows the life of the rival families, the Hatfields and the Mccoys, as they battle it out during the Civil War. Sure, it’s not about ganglords or cartels, but there’s exactly the same amount of drama.
If you love Narcos and have a little soft spot for ol’ pablo (don’t worry, we do too), we don’t blame you for wanting to keep the show sacred and never watching any other show again. Unfortunately, as we have to wait for them to shoot another series, we can only re-watch the first three seasons for so long, so you need these TV shows like Narcos. Trust us.
