Okay, if you’ve got to this point in your life and you HAVEN’T watched Gilmore Girls, you need a serious reality check – because basically, it is the greatest show ever made (we’re not even kidding). We’re not sure what we love most about this epic comedy drama. Is it the envious mother/daughter/best friend vibe Rory and Lorelei rock? Is it the hilarious one-liners? Is it the questionable life decisions these ladies make (yep we’re talking about the fact you chose Logan instead of Jess, Rory!). Or is it the pie and coffee from Luke’s? Either way it’s awesome, and so are these other TV shows like Gilmore Girls because where you lead, I will follow…
Top TV Shows Like Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls is the epic brainchild of Amy Sherman-Palladino and prides itself on being the best TV show of all time (okay, that’s our review but it’s basically a fact). With its comedic prowess and its dramatic storylines, there’s nothing better than watching the highs and lows of our favorite Gilmores. Yet, if you’re looking for something equally funny and dramatic, check these out:
Parenthood (2010 – 2015)
If you love Gilmore Girls, you’ll love Parenthood – mostly because it stars everyone’s favorite Gilmore, Lauren Graham. This TV drama series follows the life of the Braverman family and all three generations of their wacky setup. The show is actually based on the 1989 movie of the same name, but has given it a modern feel that will have viewers laughing out loud for hours. You know you want to watch it…
Bunheads (2012 – 2013)
Although Bunheads only ran for one season, it’s well worth a watch. Created by the Gilmore Girls legend, Amy Sherman-Palladino, this TV show features the same sarcastic humor we all know and love, landing it a well deserved spot on our TV shows like Gilmore Girls list. After a Las Vegas showgirl finds herself unexpectedly married to a random stranger (happens to the best of us), she soon joins forces with her new mother-in-law to teach ballet. As you do.
Gossip Girl (2007 – 2012)
You know you love me, Gossip Girl (XOXO). Yep, if you’re looking for a TV show similar to Gilmore Girls, you need look no further. The fellow GG show is one that will entertain you for years – because you really can watch Gossip Girl over and over again. Following the lives of Manhattan’s ‘elite,’ this show centers around the rich socialites of the Upper East Side, through their high school years and their ventures into the adult world – but it’s no so easy with Gossip Girl watching their every move. If you love Gossip Girl as much as we do, check out the TV Show Like Gossip Girl to Awake Your Inner Upper-East-Sider too!
Veronica Mars (2004 – 2007)
If you’re looking for something a little darker than the light humor of Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars should be your go-to. This noir mystery drama follows the life of Veronica Mars as she speeds through life as a high school student and then as a college student. However, there’s more to her than meets the eye. On the side, Veronica works as a hilarious and harsh private investigator. This is a good’un.
Ugly Betty (2006 – 2010)
If you love Gilmore Girls, there is no way you won’t love Ugly Betty. Starring America Ferrera as the notoriously unfashionable (but lovely) Betty Suarez, we watch as she takes on a new role at the prestigious fashion magazine, Mode. Unfortunately, Betty struggles to fit in with her ponchos and braces, but soon makes her voice heard amongst the ranks.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016)
Oh, come on – you didn’t think we’d miss this one out, did you?! If you’re looking for TV shows like Gilmore Girls then you can’t really get much better than this. As Gilmore Girls came to an end, the world was screaming for more. Although we were left in the dark for nine years, our dreams were finally answered in a four-part sequel series in 2016. Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life revisited the Gilmores a few years after the original series…and things had certainly changed. There are some shockers, but you’ll need to watch to find out.
Gilmore Girls is the kind of TV show you can watch over and over again, and we almost feel like we’re part of the Stars Hollow family. Yet sometimes you need a little vacation from the small town, to visit some of these epic TV shows like Gilmore Girls.
