If you’re reading this right now, there’s no way you haven’t heard of The Witcher Saga (if you haven’t – well, you need to get on that right now). And if you’re a Witcher fan – you’re going to be pretty happy with this news.
The Witcher Saga first came to popular attention after Andrzej Sapkowski released his series of eight novels that soon procured a huge cult following. Due to the success of the novels, The Witcher Saga inspired the incredibly popular video game – CD Projekt Red.
Now, Netflix is giving fans what they have wanted for over a decade – its own TV show. The Witcher Saga writer, Sapkowski will aid the production as a creative consultant but is not being paid for his input. Instead, he’s there to make sure they stay true to his and The Witcher’s legacy. He has said,
I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.
And Sapkowski isn’t the only Witcher alum to work on the new series. The video director for The Witcher games, Tomas Baginski, is set to direct one episode of the new show each season. So we can expect it to be true Witcher.
At the moment, there’s no other information surrounding the new TV show, and we’re yet to understand what the new show will be about, and what stories will be portrayed, but the executive producers Jason Brown and Sean Daniel have given us a little teaser.
The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.
So far, we don’t have any news on casting, the release date or the choice of director – but we can’t wait to find out more!
