The Coen Brothers Are Bringing Their First Ever TV Show to Netflix

A match made in TV heaven!

We make it no secret here at RetroEnt that we absolutely LOVE Netflix – and recently, they have been right on the money. With their Netflix Original movies and TV shows, as well as the fact they stream some of the best shows in the world (I mean, Friends is on there. Could we BE any happier?) and their recent announcement that they’ve purchased their first company, Millarworld, we can only imagine it’s a matter of time before they take over the real world. And we’d be totally okay with that.

Now, Netflix has confirmed that they’ve teamed up with the Coen Brothers to bring us a brand new show – and we can’t even deal.

The Coen Brothers are the genius filmmaking brains behind some of our favorite movies; including Fargo, True Grit, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Serious Man and our personal fave, Inside Llewyn Davis (if you haven’t watched it, get on that ASAP). However, Joel and Ethan Coen have always stuck to what they know – filmmaking. This new collaboration with Netflix will be their first ever jolt into the world of TV. Oooh.

The pair confirmed the news yesterday, in a statement that read ‘We are streaming mother….!’ (yeah, the rest of that word is definitely NSFW). Joel and Ethan will both write, and executive produce all six episodes of the new show, which will be called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and will follow the life of Buster Scruggs during the American Wild West years. However, unlike your average TV show, this new show will be an anthology of sorts and will follow six different stories each episode. Yee-Haw!

Although Netflix hasn’t revealed much about The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, we do know it’s already got most of its cast sorted. With the likes of Tim Blake Nelson, Zoe Kazan and James Franco on board (as well as the fact it’s written and produced by the Coen Brothers) we can imagine it’ll be a smash hit.

The news of the Coen/Netflix collaboration couldn’t have come at a better time, either. After Disney announced yesterday that they would be removing all of their content from the Netflix streaming site and creating their own, Netflix will need all of the big guys on board. And we can’t wait.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs will be available to stream sometimes in 2018.
