Unless you spent your childhood living under a rock (apologies if that was the case, that must have been rough) there’s a high chance you watched the best show on earth, AKA Sabrina the Teenage Witch. When it comes to TV shows, Sabrina just got everything right. There was magic, there were wacky aunts, there was Melissa Joan Hart (who we love) and there was a talking cat called Salem who wanted to take over the world. I mean, anything with a talking cat in it is a winner for us. However, when the show was pulled from the air in 2003, we were pretty darn devastated.

So you can imagine our excitement to hear that a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot has been CONFIRMED! Yes, ladies and gentlefolk, Sabrina will be back on our screens – although this time, there will be an intriguing and dark twist.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was originally an adaptation of the popular Archie Comics series of the same name. Of course, we all know Archie Comics, and we all know that Archie Comics are making a comeback in epic TV series form (like Riverdale, which is our absolute fave. Why can’t we be like Veronica Lodge?) Now, the Riverdale showrunners are teaming up to give our favorite witch a chilling switch-up.

Riverdale developers will team up for a Sabrina reboot

The new series will be called ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ (oo-er) and will be written and produced by the Sabrina comic book writer, and Riverdale developer, Robert Aguirre-Sacasa. However, he won’t be alone. Aguirre-Sacasa will be joined at the helm by Sarah Berlanti, Jon Goldwater, and Sarah Schechter who are the brains behind Riverdale (so they’re a pretty big deal). It’s said that these comic book buffs will work together to produce a one-hour reboot that will bring us the dark and chilling reimagining of Sabrina and her adventures, that will be rife in horror and drama. So really, it won’t be a whole lot like the original. But we’re okay with that.

The CW network have released a statement regarding the new chilling series, stating that the new Sabrina,

Reimagines the origin and adventure of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming of age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature – half-witch, half-mortal – while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

As exciting as this is, there’s even more epic news. With the upcoming next season of Riverdale dropping next month (we’re counting the days) it seems Sabrina will be slowly making her way into the Riverdale narrative – and this makes us sooooo happy. This could also mean our favorite Riverdale stars could feature on the Sabrina reboot. Maybe Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge will become besties with Sabrina? Who knows. But we hope Sabrina’s iconic witches hat makes an appearance – because it rocks.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch is getting a reboot

At the moment, the show is just in the development stages so there’s no date for its arrival just yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
