Today is the day, folks! The day we have been waiting for, since…well, since Season 4 ended in 2009 – has it really been 8 years?!

Let’s be honest; you can’t not like Prison Break. The past four seasons have been a culmination of breaking out of prison (we know, you wouldn’t have guessed), intense plotting, corrupt characters and the most intense cliffhanger of all time. Yes, we’re talking about that last episode of season 4. Well? Is he dead or not?

Tonight, we find out whether Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) really did die during his attempt to free Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) from prison. And here’s a spoiler: he is alive. Somehow. We’re not quite sure how. And it’s said that we’ll find out exactly how, why where and what happened with his fake death a few episodes into the new series.

This new season focuses on the lives of the main characters seven years on from the last series, and it’s said that these new episodes will be reminiscent of the last few seasons. But, in true Prison Break form, there are said to be some major twists and turns within the narrative. We can’t wait!

In regards to the storyline, we can’t tell you too many details, because Fox has been very secretive about their new season. But what we can tell you is that it will be Michael’s older brother, Lincoln Burrows, who will be taking the center screen and breaking Michael out of prison. Oh, how the tables have turned! Simple, right? Well…the situation is made even harder because this time, Michael is incarcerated in a totally different country. This time, the setting is in a war zone in the Middle East, in Yemen.

The new season also brings back our favorite old faces. Expect to see the likes of Sara, C-Note, T-Bag, Agent Kellerman, and Sucre. But a new season also calls for new faces and will include new inmates Michael befriends in prison, as well as Sara’s new husband (ooooh!) and another new character. In an interview, Sarah Wayne Callies talks about Season 5, saying,

There’s a whole new set of stakes for both Sara and Michael, which is that it’s not about us
    anymore, it’s about this kid.

Which means that Sara and Michael’s child, who is now a pre-teen child, will play more of a role in this season. Oh, this is going to be good.

Watch Prison Break Season 5 tonight on Fox, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in the US. Unfortunately, those of you in the UK will have to wait another six days to watch it on 10th April 2017 at 9pm on Fox UK.
