As we know, times are a’changing, and technology and social media are slowly taking over our lives and transforming us all into robots. Wait…what? Just kidding. But social media is becoming increasingly popular, and part of everyone’s everyday life – and Disney have got on the bandwagon. Remember the days of watching The Mickey Mouse Club on a Saturday morning in your PJ’s and seeing the likes of Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake on your TV screens? Those were the days. But it seems Disney are bringing The Mickey Mouse Club back into our lives through Facebook.
Disney has announced that they will be bringing us an all new Club Mickey Mouse (new name and everything) exclusively for the social media channel. The vice president of digital ad sales for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media told CNBC that:
We’re not bound to one format. We’re not bound to one length. That’s the beauty.
The original Mickey Mouse Club premiered on our screens back in 1955 on ABC, and skyrocketed Annette Funicello’s acting career (if you remember her, you really are retro), and was then revived for its audience in 1977, and then revived AGAIN for all of our ‘80s and ‘90s babies – and once again skyrocketed the careers of our most favorite actors, actresses, and singers today.
At the moment, there’s no news on who the new Mouseketeers may be – but with their previous alumni, we can only expect the best. Thank you, Disney.
