Yep, you heard that right. This is news that will make every single Judge Dredd fan (which is everyone, right?) say, “Holy drokk!”
Everyone’s favorite Rebellion comic book lawman, Judge Dredd is set to be getting his own TV show, entitled, Judge Dredd: Mega-City One. Entertainment Weekly broke the news yesterday evening, and it’s been reported that the new series will follow a team of Judges in Mega City One, on the US east coast.
Judge Dredd first appeared in our lives back in 1977 in the British comic book series, 2000AD, and was written by John Wagner, and illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra. Dredd soon became one of our favorite characters – if a little bit emotionless. But this combination just made him one of the best cops/judges on the scene, and he was soon saving the world on a daily basis. As you do.
But this isn’t the first time Judge Dredd has been transferred onto our screens. In 1995, Sylvester Stallone appeared in a film adaptation – and let’s just say it didn’t go down well. Nobody really liked it, and even Stallone couldn’t save it. And then in 2012, Dredd:3D was released, with Star Wars actor, Karl Urban in the lead role – and this one was simply, ‘meh.’
So the news of a TV show, rather than a movie, is a welcome release to fans. It’s been reported that IM Global Television President, Mark Stern, will be joining the Judge Dredd team, and will executive produce the new TV series. His resume includes the likes of Defiance and Battlestar Galactica.
We don’t know any other info just yet, but we do have a poster… and it’s pretty darn cool.
