Hold the door ?

Okay, we’re not ashamed to admit that the whole Hodor scene (if you’re not up to date yet, click off now) broke our hearts. We’re used to George R. R. Martin killing off some of our faves but HODOR?! What did that poor little big guy ever do to anyone? Anyway, whatever, totally over it and not having nightmares over the “hold the door scene” anymore… Well, we weren’t until KFC released this new advert.

Hodor getting all in a panic over lunchtime in the new KFC advert

In what is quite possibly the most heartbreaking advert for fried chicken we’ve ever seen, we get to relive all of the horrible moments leading to Hodor’s death. Again. Why, KFC, why would you do that? The advert is pretty cleverly timed, seeing as we’re less than two weeks away from Game of Thrones Season 7, so those ad execs know exactly what they’re doing.

The advert (hilariously named Lunchtime is Coming) starts off with Hodor, Kristian Nairn, as your typical KFC employee just getting on with his day. However, as the clock strikes midday, hordes of people march through the door, demanding “chicken with fries.” In a similar vein to the “hold the door” scene, Hodor starts to lose it a little bit as more and more people scream in his face. We won’t spoil the rest for you, but it is kinda hilarious. Or utterly heartbreaking. We’re not sure which yet. Watch it below and judge for yourself:

This advert has certainly capitalized on the Game of Thrones mania that’s kinda taken over all of us at the moment. As we count down the days until Season 7, we’re buzzing more and more for what’s to come. Oh, and thanks to this advert we’ll probably now have to watch the first episode of season 7 with a KFC rice box because there’s no way we could ever order “chicken and fries” again.
