Hands up who has played Sonic The Hedgehog at least once in their lives? We’re just gonna go ahead and assume that everyone has put their hands up right now – because it’s basically the law to play this game, right? Yep, as far as video game classics go, this speedy blue hedgehog is definitely up there with the big leagues, and it seems he’s getting even bigger in his red boots by the minute because he’s now getting his own movie!
Of course, the video game sticklers around the world will probably be screaming at their phone screens right now and telling us that there has already been a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and we’re not gonna disagree with you. But can we really count that 1996 film as a movie? This new one is going to be chock-full of CGI, live-action scenes, as well as a brand new co-star who you might recognize. Just take a look…
Yep, James Marsden of Westworld fame will be racing alongside Sonic the Hedgehog as they whip through the Green Hill Zone and face world domination. Okay, they’re not really taking over the world, but we totally wouldn’t object if that’s what they wanted to get up to. This new confirmation has come as a slight surprise to some, as the rumor going around Hollywood was that Paul Rudd would be taking on the role. However, it seems as though Paramount had a change of heart at the last minute and thought that Marsden would be a better fit (and we kinda agree). It’s believed that James will be ditching his cowboy hat for a slightly different one for this movie, as he will take on the role of a proud police officer who teams up with Sonic to save the world from the evil Robotnik. Remember playing that guy? It wasn’t easy.
So far, that’s all we know about the movie, but we have a feeling this one might be a success. #SorryNotSorry to everyone who worked on the 1996 movie. But one thing we do know is that the live-action/CGI Sonic the Hedgehog movie is penciled in for a November 15, 2019 release date. I mean, it’s gonna be a struggle waiting that long, but we think we can do it.
