If you’ve never dreamed of traveling to Genovia, then you should probably check yourself before you wreck yourself. As the land of pears and the land we call our home (come on, you know the national anthem), we’ve missed our little trips across the pond. Yep, it’s been a whopping 18 years since Mia Thermopolis realized that she was really Mia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, Princess of Genovia, and it’s been 15 years since she became Queen. So, what’s happened during her reign? Well, it seems as though we’re about to find out, because Anne Hathaway has confirmed that the Princess Diaries 3 script has been completed, and both she and Julie Andrews are on board. Feel free to give the most dramatic air punch of your life.
Of course, just because there’s a script doesn’t mean it’s full-steam ahead. The Genovian royals are all for donning their tiaras and knighting tram drivers with umbrellas once again, but it seems as though everyone is a little wary. After all, The Princess Diaries 1 and 2 became iconic. Has the time passed for a third movie? This is what Anne had to say for herself during an interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen:
There is a script for the third movie… I want to do it. Julie wants to do it… It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.
Yuh-huh, so it seems as though we might have to wait a little while longer to see whether Mia has ruled as a single and independent lady Queen, or whether she decided to give things a go with Nicholas (with his uncle out of the way, hopefully). Naturally, we also need to catch up with the rest of the cast. Are Clarice and Joe still together? Did Lilly hook up with the handsome guard with the funny voice? How are Helen’s babies? WE NEED ANSWERS, PEOPLE.
