Jake Gyllenhaal Is In Talks to Play The New Spider-Man Villain And He Looks Pretty Cool

He looks a little Mysterio…

By now, you should know that we’re pretty darn obsessed with Marvel here at RetroEnt. We get our…ahem, backsides… to the movie theaters as soon as the latest movie is released, we adorn our desk with Baby Groot bobbleheads (because why not?) and love to keep our dear readers up to date with the latest Marvel news. That’s why we thought we’d let you know that Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play the new Spider-Man villain and that he looks pretty cool. There’s no need to thank us; we’re just doing our jobs and saving the world one news story at a time. We should really get a cape.

In July 2017, we had the pleasure of watching Tom Holland step into his spidey-suit and become Peter Parker/Spider-Man for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and we don’t wanna spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet – but Holland is definitely our faaaaaave spider. And we don’t even like spiders. We’ve known for a while that Homecoming has an untitled sequel in the works, but what we haven’t know – until now – is that there is a brand new villain on the block. Say hello to Mysterio!

Jake Gyllenhaal to play new Spider-Man villain

With a fishbowl for a head, a giant purple cape and some scaly skin that looks as if he needs a trip to the dermatologist, Mysterio is the kind of villain who has been within the Marvel Universe for yonks – but he’s only just been given the chance to put his villainous ways to good use in a Marvel. Exciting, right? Well, what’s even more exciting is that The Hollywood Reporter has reported (lol, geddit?) that the one and only Jake Gyllenhaal may be taking on the role! It’s been noted that the actor has been talking to the head honchos within the Marvel Universe, and is first in line to don his purple cape. I mean, Gyllenhall can pull anything off, so we can’t imagine he would have much of a problem pulling off the color purple.

So far there’s no more news about this upcoming sequel, but we do know that the Sony/Marvel collaboration is set to open on July 5, 2019. Our spidey senses are tingling!
