If you claim to hate romantic comedies, then there’s no way we can be friends. Sorry, not sorry. Romantic comedies make the world go around, and this genre of movie has every ingredient you could possibly want in one beautiful sandwich. There’s a little bit of smoochy smoochy for those who are sticklers for love, and there are lol-able jokes that will put a smile on your face. Yep, what more could you want?! In fact, we don’t believe that there’s anyone out there who hates romantic comedies, which means that you’ll love this new movie. Here’s everything you could possibly need to know about Isn’t It Romantic.
What’s it about?
Although Isn’t It Romantic is primarily a rom-com, it’s a lil’ more than that. That’s because this movie is actually a satirical rom-com that pokes fun at all of the other romantic comedies to ever exist. Yep, this film follows the life of Natalie, an architect from the land Down Under who now lives in the Big Apple. For much of her life, Natalie has laughed in the face of romantic comedies. She couldn’t imagine that such clichés existed, but this all changes when she hits her head in the subway station (ahem, here’s looking at you, Amy Schumer). As she wakes up in the hospital, she realizes that her whole life has changed. Her life has become a cliché-driven “PG-13 Universe” – and she doesn’t quite know how to deal with it.
Who is in it?
The real question is… Who isn’t in it? Isn’t It Romantic features some of the biggest names in Hollywood right now, and we’re not quite sure how to handle all of this news. Taking on the lead role of Natalie is none other than our favorite Barden Bella, Rebel Wilson. As if that wasn’t cool enough, you’ll also be able to see the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Adam DeVine, Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin, Tom Ellis, and Jennifer Saunders on your screens. I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that.
Why all the hype?
Why all the hype, you ask? Well, why not?! Romantic comedies are always hugely successful in Hollywood, and it’s fair to say that this particular rom-com stands out more than most. Not only is it a satire, but it’s a satire with a hugely famous cast. Rebel Wilson is on a high thanks to her Pitch Perfect career, Chris Hemsworth is on a high because he’s Chris Hemsworth, Adam Devine is on a high because of his comedy prowess, and Priyanka Chopra is on a high for many reasons. There’s her own talent, there’s her recent marriage, and there’s her connection to the new Duchess of Sussex…
When is it out?
If you’re in the United States, you’ll have the pleasure of being able to watch this movie in theaters on February 13, 2019 (yes, that is the day before Valentine’s Day! Plans sorted?). For those elsewhere, you’ll be able to watch it on Netflix from February 28, 2019.
