For a while now, we’ve known that Disney is making all of our dreams come to life (quite literally), with their new additions to their live-action universe. After smashing the box-office with the likes of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, they have now got their Mickey Mouse ears firmly set on a live-action Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, and our personal fave, Mulan! In fact, because we love to keep you up to date on the latest Disney gossip (*wink*) we couldn’t help but share the fact that Disney has proven themselves to be Pitch Perfect with their new live action Mulan casting…

Disney Cast Utkarsh Ambudkar in Live-Action Mulan

Since Disney announced they were going to make a live-action Mulan, we have been scouring the internet and setting up Google alert after Google alert to ensure we’re up to date on the latest goss. We’ve learned that there’s a chance Mulan might NOT be a musical. We know, it’s devastating. Yet, we’ve also discovered that the leading lady will be played by the Chinese actress, Liu Yifei. Until now, that’s all we’ve had to work on – but don’t worry, dear RetroEnt readers, we’re not just going to dangle a Disney carrot in front of your face and not let you eat it! Yuh-huh, Liu will also be joined on set by the Pitch Perfect beatboxing legend, Utkarsh Ambudkar. I mean, how cool is that?! Although it’s not yet confirmed which role Utkarsh will play, Deadline suggests that he will take on the character of a con artist called Skath. Exciting!
Utkarsh Ambudkar and Ron Yuan Join Live-Action Mulan

As if that wasn’t cool enough, we’ve also learned that Ron Yuan (who rose to fame for his role in Marco Polo) will also be getting down to business to defeat the Huns. In fact, this dude will play Sergeant Qiang, who is known as the second in command within the Imperial Regiment.

At the moment, Disney’s live-action Mulan is set to be released on March 27, 2020 – and the actors and actresses are currently getting themselves prepped to pack their bags and travel to China where filming will take place. Can someone build a time machine so we can just go to 2020 now, please? Thanks.
