If you’ve been keeping up to date with the world of Hollywood recently, you’ll know that Roseanne Barr has not been in our good books. Yep, ABC actually decided to pull her show from the air in May 2018 after the actress posted a racist tweet to her millions of followers. Rightly so, ABC wanted to cut all ties with the writer, star, and producer of the show, and noted that her Tweet was “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.” Although fans agreed with their decision to pull the show, they were upset to see such a legendary show come off the air. Thankfully, ABC has since listened to our pleas, and are now creating a new Roseanne spinoff! There’s always a silver lining, ey?
Yuh-huh, ABC confirmed the news on Thursday that a 10-episode spin-off series would be coming to our screens in the near future, but stressed that the spinoff would go ahead without Roseanne Barr. They wanted their fans and their followers to know that they would not have anything to do with the actress and that she would have absolutely no creative involvement with the new series. Alongside this, they also noted that Roseanne would not financially gain from this new development. So far, this new spinoff has been given the working title of ‘The Conners’ and will see all of the current stars continue to play their characters from the previous show. This means that we won’t have to say goodbye to the likes of John Goodman and Sara Gilbert – and this has just about made our day.
However, confirming this news hasn’t been easy. Because Roseanne holds all of the rights to her character and the show itself, ABC and their lawyers have had to work tirelessly to ensure that the spinoff could go ahead. It seems as though they have also been cooperating with Barr herself to release some of the strings attached to them. She released this statement:
I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of the beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.
Well, it’s the end of an era, but the start of a new one!
