Two weeks ago today, the world lost one of the most iconic musicians of our time – Chester Bennington. The frontman of Linkin Park passed away at the age of 41, leaving the world riddled with emotion and many honoring his life with open letters, social media posts and photos. Coldplay took this one step further on Tuesday night, as the band paid tribute to the singer with a cover of their hit song, Crawling.
The British band kicked off their 2017 North American tour in New Jersey on Tuesday night, and frontman Chris Martin honored the late Chester Bennington as he sat down for a stripped-back, solo piano performance of their song. Before he began, Martin dedicated the song to ‘anyone who’s missing someone’ and restarted his rendition after a slight fumble, stating that he wanted to get it just right and give the iconic song the respect and time it deserves.
The video has since made the rounds of YouTube, with many fans from across the world thanking Martin for his words and emotional performance.

After the news of Bennington’s sudden death, Linkin Park released this statement.
Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened. You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realised.
We think this is the perfect tribute. Thank you, Coldplay.
