These famous singers retired and then came back with a bang

Second time was the charm for these musical icons

Let’s be honest; most of us can’t wait for the day that we get to wave buh-bye to our boss and live a fun-filled life of retirement. While most of us won’t get the chance to do this until we’re old and gray, there are many famous singers out there who have decided to retire from the music world and focus on living a relatively “normal” life at a much younger age. Although this seemed like a good idea to them at the time, we can’t help but wonder if they soon realized that “normal” was pretty boring. After all, these famous singers retired before making a spectacular comeback – and some would say that they became even more successful the second time around!

    Tina Turner

Can you believe that there was a time when Tina Turner retired? After taking the world by storm in the late 1950s with her soulful voice, her big hair, and her huge personality, Tina continued her reign until the early ‘00s – where it seems as though she got a little tired. After 44 years of performing on a constant basis, Tina made the decision to retire from the music scene. This was a sad day for big-haired fans across the world, but they weren’t crying for too long, as she made her way out of retirement just nine years later. Since then, she’s kept things pretty quiet, but that doesn’t mean that she’s gone for good…

    Rick Astley

He’s never gonna give us up, you know. He’s also never gonna let us down – because Rick Astley is one of the coolest dudes in the business. Known for his epic hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” Rick Astley was a huge name in the 1980s – but he soon decided that, actually, he was going to give it all up. He opted to retire from the music scene in the 1990s. Yet, as his song became even more popular and people wanted even more from him, Rick decided to give in to temptation and give the people what they wanted. He came out of retirement in 2016, and he’s been going strong ever since.

Everyone knows who Jay-Z is, right? This living legend is one of the most well-known men in the world of music, and that’s not just because he’s married to Queen Bey herself. While Jay-Z has a huge career under his belt, did you know that he actually retired back in 2003? It was during this time that he supposedly got “bored” of making his own music, so he decided to stake his place as the CEO of Def Jam Records instead. Of course, he’s since come back with a bang, and he returned just three years after he retired with his next album. Jay-Z just can’t be contained, y’all.

    Spice Girls

Okay, these ladies didn’t come back fully-formed – but some of them still came back, so we’re still counting it. Back in the day, the Spice Girls were everything the music world wanted and more. They were sporty, they were scary, they were posh, and they were beautiful babies – and everyone loved them. It seemed as though the Spice Girls could do no wrong, but then these famous singers retired in 2001 and spoiled all the fun. Although fans begged for them to reunite every single year after that, it took them a whopping 18 years to get back together properly for another tour. The only person missing was Posh Spice, who decided to stay at home.

    Ozzy Osbourne

With his long locks and his amazing voice, there’s no doubt about the fact that Ozzy Osbourne is kind of a big deal. His whole family has since shown the world that they have the music in them, but Ozzy has always sat at the head of the table – before he retired, of course. In 1992, the rockstar decided that he didn’t want to tour anymore, so he embarked on one last “No More Tours” tour that would allow him to say goodbye to his fans. He wanted to spend more time with his family and enjoy a quieter life, but are you surprised to learn that this didn’t last very long? Ozzy came out of retirement just a few years later, and he’s now bigger than ever.

Well, there you have it. These famous singers retired and then came back stronger, and we can’t help but wonder if it may be time to hand in our notice. After all, we could do what these guys did and just come back with a bang later on, right? What do you mean it doesn’t work like that…?!
