We all know Prince, we all know Rihanna, we all know Madonna – but do you all know who Cyrus is? Well, you will do soon enough because Billy Ray Cyrus is dumping two of his names and changing it to one… Cyrus. He told Rolling Stone,
After August 25th, I will be the artist formerly known as Billy Ray. I’m just going by my last name Cyrus.
This new development comes as Cyrus celebrates the 25th anniversary of his hit, “Achy Breaky Heart” and releases new versions for all of his fans. The country musician rose to fame in the Spring of 1992 and soon became a huge hit. But to celebrate its birthday last week, Cyrus released an all new “Achy Breaky Heart.” For this new version, Billy Ray Cyrus teamed up with Don Von Tress, the original songwriter, to re-record the song. But he didn’t just re-record it. He invited along members of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, the Swampers, along to record the song with him. And we kinda love it.
But Cyrus isn’t just stopping there. He is also going to be releasing a new EDM version of “Achy Breaky Heart” which will consist of Spanglish lyrics, which he has collaborated on with Bootsy Collins, the funk musician. We’re not sure why… but we’re kind of excited to hear how it sounds.
Because it’s not Billy Ray Cyrus anymore. It’s Cyrus. And Cyrus does what he wants.
