Last month, Barry Manilow publicly came out to his fans and outed his news about his secret wedding to his partner, Garry Kief in 2014 (how did they keep that a secret?!). And the world couldn’t be happier for him.
When the news finally broke last month that pop legend, Barry Manilow was gay, he reported that one of the reasons it took so long for him to come out was because he feared that he would disappoint his long-running female fan-base. If anything, it’s made us love him even more…
Now, a month later, Manilow is speaking out about his experiences as a publicly gay man, and says that it’s been a ‘beautiful experience.’
It’s turned out to be just great. I’ve really enjoyed it, most of all because the fans and the public have been so supportive…These people, these strangers – they care for me. Isn’t it odd?” he said, “I’m just a musician who sings. And these people care about my happiness – and that’s what’s been going on. It’s been a beautiful, beautiful experience.
Manilow spoke ahead of the BMI Awards, where he was awarded the Icon Award for his musical legacy, his musical hits, and his musical talent. The event was also attended by some of the music world’s most famous artists, and many of them took the red carpet and praised Manilow for speaking so openly.
