Under the shade (quite literally) of the Academy Awards is an award absolutely nobody in the world of Hollywood wants to be nominated for. Yep, we’re talking about the Golden Raspberry Awards! Known more commonly as the Razzie Awards, this ceremony honors (or shames) the best of the worst actors and movies of the year. On January 22 this year, the nominees for the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards were announced, but there were some people who weren’t too happy about the nominees. In fact, people were pretty darn angry after the likes of Jennifer Lawrence – AKA one of the greatest people in the world – Emma Watson, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Goldie Hawn, Zac Efron and even more of the most popular Hollywood actors and actresses were nominated for their epic fails. Awkward, or what?
The official winner (or should we call them losers?) were announced on March 3, and although we feel pretty bad about the actors and actresses who have to have this award in their mansions, we also have to laugh – just a teensy, weensy little bit. Taking the most coveted prize (AKA the prize nobody wants to win) was The Emoji Movie. If you haven’t seen this movie, there’s not much point, because it literally is just movie about emojis that makes reference to human waste (tee-hee) quite a lot throughout. As if that wasn’t bad enough, The Emoji also won another TWO more Razzie Awards – which is quite an achievement, considering there are only ten potential awards to win. Yuh-huh, it won the Razzie for Worst Director, and Worst Screen Combo. Considering this movie actually had some pretty big names in it, that’s just gotta hurt. Like, a lot.
Disregarding The Emoji Movie, which basically seems to have taken over the Razzie Awards, there were some other winners/losers who may be a bit more surprising. In fact, the legend that is Tom Cruise won the Razzie for Worst Actor, after his appearance in the failed attempt to reboot The Mummy. Taking home the Worst Supporting Actress and Actor Awards were Kim Basinger for her role in Fifty Shades Darker, and Mel Gibson for his role in Daddy’s Home 2. However, Kim Basinger wasn’t the only one who was fifty shades of awkward that night, as the movie as a whole won the award for the Worst Remake, Rip Off or Sequel.
Although we do have to feel for all of those winners/losers, nothing comes close to the emotions (or you could say emojis) we’re feeling towards Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the Baywatch remake right now. Embarrassingly, the Golden Raspberry Awards created a whole new category for Dwayne, Zac and the rest of the Baywatch gang – as this (flip) flop needed to be acknowledged. Yep, Baywatch won the debut award for the Special Rotten Tomatoes Award: The Razzie Nominee So Bad You Loved It!
