Let’s be honest; we just can’t get enough of a movie fan theory – we live and breathe them. Sure, most of them we don’t believe, but they’re still fun to explore. But this Toy Story theory has hung around for a bit, and now the Toy Story legend, Tom Hanks himself has approved of it.
The theory popped up around the Interweb a few years ago; and went viral considering it was endorsed by the conspiracy king, Jon Negroni (which is a big deal). The theory goes that Jessie originally belonged to Andy’s mother – and there’s evidence. And it’s pretty darn convincing. So prepare to get your minds blown.
In Toy Story 2, there is a flashback taking us back to Jessie and Jessie’s original owner, Emily – who is a young girl dressed up just like Jessie with her red Cowgirl hat with white lace around the edge. So what’s the big deal? Well, when you look back to the hat Andy plays with Woody when he was younger, notice any similarities? You should, because they are nearly identical. This could mean that Andy’s mother passed down the hat to her son for him to play with his own Cowboys…
Since this theory appeared, the writer of Toy Story, Pete Docter crushed our dreams and outright debunked this theory. “You know, John Lasseter was the director [of Toy Story 2], and we talked for hours about the backstory – and we have our own kind of backstory that’s a little different than that.”
But Tom Hanks has since been made aware of the theory, and is pretty impressed.
Good idea… sounds like a fantastic off-story, a little bit of fan knowledge to me… I’m sure the folks at Pixar have paid attention to it. I’m not saying such a flashback might happen in the fourth movie, but check it.
Uhhh, what does that mean?!
