This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Music Video with David Hasselhoff is Insane

Yep. This really is a thing.

Don’t get us wrong, we love Guardians of the Galaxy as much as we love Yondu (and judging by our tears at the end of GOTG 2, that’s a lot) but we’re not quite sure what to make of their weird and wacky music video. We’re not even sure our brains have processed it just yet. So much color. So much retro. So much David Hasselhoff. So many conflicting emotions. We do love it – it just makes us feel super weird.

Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn and Marvel (along with pretty much every other cast member) shared their new music video on social media yesterday. The retro-style video featured the song, ‘Guardians’ Inferno’ by Sneepers, which appears on the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 soundtrack. And as we know, Guardians prides itself on its epic and old-school soundtrack. We just weren’t expecting this attack on the eyes.

guardians of the galaxy release a retro music video starring david hasselhoff and it's weird

The video features many of the main Guardians characters, including the Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Zoe Saldana and Michael Rooker. Guillermo Rodriguez and James Gunn himself but the two most important cameos come from Stan Lee – and of course, The Hoff.

Now, you wouldn’t really place David Hasselhoff and the Guardians of the Galaxy into the same mixing bowl, but somehow, the over-the-top sparkles, the awkward dancing, and the retro feel just scream David Hasselhoff territory. So why not? It made us smile. And with lyrics such as ‘Just remember, in these times of hardship: We. Are. Groot.’ we just can’t resist.

Although the new music video was directed by David Yarovesky, the original idea came from James Gunn. On Sunday, he tweeted that ‘the idea was all mine, but the execution was all his.’

The music video will form part of the bonus feature on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Blu-Ray, which will be available to buy from August 22. This Blu-Ray will serve as Disney’s first ever 4K Blu-Ray release, so why not celebrate in style? If that’s what you’d call it…
