The Reviews Are In… See What The Critics Have To Say About Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Do you agree?

Yes, ladies and gentleporgs, the time has FINALLY come! Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out in theaters (yay!) If you’ve been keeping up to date with our news recently, you’ll know we’ve been counting down the days until we finally got to see what Rian Johnson had done with our favorite franchise. After the success of the epic premiere that was dedicated to the one and only Carrie Fisher, the critics have had their say on the movie…

Starring Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Laura Dern and more, Star Wars fans have been awaiting the release of The Last Jedi ever since the new trilogy was announced in 2012. This new story follows the events of The Force Awakens, and allows fanatics to join Rey as she learns the ways of the Jedi under the instruction of Luke Skywalker (the dream?) However, Luke soon becomes unsure about Rey’s use of the Force, and shies away from her strength. Alongside this, The Last Jedi also focuses on the Resistance, Kylo Ren and Snoke and their fight against the First Order. How will it end? Well, you’ll have to watch to find out.

Critics Have Their Say On The Last Jedi

Those who have already watched the movie so far have been impressed with The Last Jedi. After all, it is Star Wars! With a whopping 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, Star Wars fans and critics have likened the production to that of The Force Awakens – which definitely can’t be a bad thing. Here are some of our favorite reviews:

[Director Rian Johnson’s] movie has a sense of humor about itself and a sense of joy, but its emotional generosity, even in the midst of all the extravagant green-screen work, is its best special effect – Stephanie Zacharek, TIME Magazine.

[Rian Johnson] achieves what no one else has since The Empire Strikes Back: a fusion of junkyard genre parts and passion – David Edelstein, New York Magazine/Vulture

[Johnson’s] often-stirring addition to the saga finally lands on an affecting point about the importance of preserving essential cultural tradition without clinging too strictly to the dogma – and the texts – of the old way – A.A Dowd, AV Club

Although there are some stellar reviews, there are some critics and fans who haven’t been so impressed with The Last Jedi.

The Critics Have Had Their Say on The Last Jedi

The movie comes off as a work that’s ironed out, flattened down, appalling purified – Richard Brody, New Yorker

But gradually, Johnson’s many additions become too much of a good thing and The Last Jedi grows crowded, busy and long – Kate Taylor, Globe and Mail

That’s a lot of movie. Like a LOT of movie. So much movie, I think my engorged eyeballs had to stick a finger down their throats and vomit out a couple of epic battle scenes just so they could get through the finale – Ray Greene, CineGods.com

Well there ya have it. Have you seen The Last Jedi? Do you agree with the critics? Let us know in the comments!
