If you’re new to the weird and wonderful world of RetroEnt, we’d first of all like to welcome you to our home. We may have a few little quirks, but we promise to fill your noggins will all kinds of nostalgia that will have your toes tingling (in a good way). Secondly, we’d just like to make you aware that we’re feeling a little under the weather right now. Don’t worry; we’ll be okay, but the doctors have said that we have a severe case of Marvel-itis and that the only way to get rid of it is to watch every single Marvel movie, like, ever. Of course, we’ve taken the advice of the expert and since been able to complete this list of the most epic Stan Lee cameos. You’re so welcome.
There are some people in this world that don’t rate Deadpool, and we’re not sure whether we can be friends with them. I mean, I’m sure they’re great – because we just don’t want that kinda negativity in our lives, you know? When Deadpool became the first R-rated movie within the Marvel Universe, the head honchos needed to do something special to make it stand out from the crowd. Thankfully, Stan Lee was well up for getting into the groove and helping a brother out, so his cameo really was something special. Yep, he pumped up the volume in the strip club when he took on the role of the DJ, and of course, he was surrounded by women. That’s just how he rolls.
Thor: The Dark World
We love Thor a little too much, and the fact that he’s the only one who can pick up his hammer is actually one of the coolest things ever. We wish we had that same superpower with the office donuts. We also love the fact that Stan Lee makes a hilarious cameo in this movie because he just knows how to rock it. Rather than surrounding himself with the supers in this cameo, Stan finds himself in front of Erik Selvig in an asylum. As Stan listens to the professor’s lecture on just about anything and everything, Erik uses two different shoes to make his points (because who doesn’t?). Once he’s finished, he asks those in front of him whether he has any questions – and Stan has one. Can he have his shoe back?
We’d love to know how you feel about the new Spider-Man, so whether you love him or hate him do let us know in the comments. We’re super interested in whether you dig him or not. When you look past the new actor and the new look, the actual story is pretty freakin’ impressive. Homecoming is the kind of movie that you’ll watch again and again and see new little nuggets and easter eggs each time, which is why you might have missed Stan Lee’s cameo on the first watch. As the young and determined Spider-Man flies through his neighborhood in Queens, he causes a slight disturbance. Okay, a big disturbance. To try and quiet the noise, Stan pops his head out of the window with this iconic line: “Don’t make me come down there, you punk!”
Captain America: Civil War
Stan Lee always has to make his presence known in Marvel movies, and he’s really not afraid to humiliate his superheroes if he feels like it. Even if that superhero is Tony Stark. So, that’s exactly what he decided to do at the end of Captain America: Civil War. At the end of this movie, Stan Lee takes on the role of a Fedex driver with a package for Tony Stark. We have to admit, it’s probably one of his best acting nuggets to date, and we couldn’t control our lols when he decided to call Iron Man “Tony Stank” instead of “Tony Stark” – because we all love a bit of childish humor sometimes, right? Okay, we love it all the time.
If you’ve seen Doctor Strange, you’ll know that Stan Lee’s cameo is so much more than just a little video clip slipped into the final production. Oh, no. There is SCIENCE behind this one, man. This one is super smart. During one particular action scene, Doctor Strange and Baron Mordo get into a multidimensional fight that takes them from one dimension to the next. It’s during this time that Benedict Cumberbund (we know it’s Cumberbatch, but Cumberbund is much cooler) smashes into the side of a bus and takes a little glimpse inside. That’s when we see Stan Lee chucking to himself while reading a book on superpowers and thinking how silly they are. I mean, it’s great.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2
We often struggle to decide whether a Marvel sequel is better than the original, and the jury is still out on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. However, what we can confirm is that Stan Lee’s cameo is SOOOOO much better in volume two than volume one. It’s a fact. In this hilarious cameo, Stan Lee doesn’t take on the form of a human, but rather one of the Watchers (you know, the ones with the long robes and the funny faces). We see him having a little chin-wag with his fellow Watchers on another planet, but we soon realize that he’s stuck. The classic line? “How will I get out of here? Aw, gee, I’ve got so many more stories to tell!”
Marvel movies would be nothing without the end credit scene and the piece de resistance; Stan Lee’s cameos. But if you don’t have the time to watch every single movie and waste your life away, then you can take our word for it and believe that these are the most epic Stan Lee cameos of all time. We wouldn’t lie to you. We promise.
