Last year saw the release of Suicide Squad, and sure, some people hated it. But we thought it was pretty special (and we’ve definitely watched it about 385 times since it was released). Considering it rocked up just shy of $750million in box office revenue, it’s not surprise Warner Bros want another slice of Suicide Squad pie.
And so do we. Because we can’t deal with that cliffhanger. Ugh, we thought he was dead?!
House of Card’s Joel Kinnaman and the one and only Rick Flag (you know, the one who was dating the Evil Enchantress/geologist. Bit of a dodgy relationship, really) has been speaking to The Live Feed about the first movie, and the prospect of Suicide Squad 2.
As far as I know, they’re writing the script, and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.
Although nothing is confirmed just yet, we do know that it’s likely the original Suicide Squad writer and director, David Ayers, will not be coming back to direct the second movie – but he’s not leaving the Gotham Universe altogether. Ayers is currently working on a new spin-off film called Gotham City Sirens which follows the story of Harley Quinn and other epic female DC villains as they undertake their villainous deeds (which we’re so looking forward to).
It’s pretty certain, then, that the new movie is still on the lookout for a new director to bring the sequel to life, and Kinnaman has had his say, saying the new film needs
Someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.
Smart move. If the news is right, and filming for Suicide Squad 2 is set to begin in 2018, we can expect a brand new movie sometime in 2019. Y’all jokers must be crazy…
