In a world full of hate, sadness and a heck load of problems, there is one movie that can always cheer us up – Sex and the City, of course! Whether you’re a Miranda, a Samantha, a Charlotte or a Carrie, everyone can appreciate the sass and the fun that the Sex and the City girls bring into our lives. So, when we found out that plans the Sex and the City 3 movie had been scrapped, we were pretty distraught (like, we cried for a good few hours distraught).
The devastating news was confirmed by Sarah Jessica Parker last Friday (September 29), when she told Extra that they had reached the end of their story.
We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.
Yep, that’s us. We wanted another movie, gosh darnit.
Although Sarah Jessica Parker was sad about the decision, she seemed to have accepted the fate of the franchise, and realized it had come to a natural stopping point. However, one cast member wasn’t ready to hang up her Manolos just yet – and took to Instagram to share her sadness over the cancellation.
Kristin Davis, who has played Charlotte York through seven seasons and two movies, posted a heartfelt goodbye to the cast, crew and the fans of Sex and the City on Instagram. She wrote,
I wish that we could have made the final chapter, on our own terms, to complete the stories of our characters.
Our hearts. They hurt so much.
Unfortunately, there has been no official report as to why Sex and the City 3 was canceled, but we have a few ideas. Although fans have been eagerly awaiting another installment, the second movie didn’t do so well in the box-office, and was absolutely slated by critics…could they deal with adding another flop to the mix? Earlier this week, it was rumored that Kim Cattrall (who played Samantha) was the cause of the cancellation, because her ‘diva demands’ had been too much for the production company. However, Kim has denied these rumors and simply stated that she had no desire to return to the role. Why, Samantha, why?!
This sucks.
