Quentin Tarantino is one of the most prolific directors in the business (not bad for a guy who dropped out of high school, ey?) and is known for his bloody style and horror-fueled storylines. But it seems he’s stepping out of his comfort zone for his next project and has confirmed he will undertake his first movie drawn from a real-life event – the Manson Family Murders.
The Manson Family Murders are among the most infamous and brutal murders in American history, with ringleader Charles Manson becoming a household name associated with serial and cult killers. As the leader of his ‘family’ of followers, Manson instigated the murder of seven people in 1969, including the pregnant wife of famous film director, Roman Polanski, actress Sharon Tate. Manson is currently serving nine life sentences in prison for his crimes. Because of the victims and the unusual way in which Manson orchestrated the crimes, the Manson Family Murders have remained a talking point ever since.
Now, Tarantino hopes to bring the bloody storyline to life in a new movie. The plot will follow the life of Charles Manson, his followers and the events leading up to the murder of Sharon Tate. The Hollywood Reporter has said that Tarantino has approached numerous A-List actors, including Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie (to star as Tate) and Brad Pitt, who Tarantino has previously worked with, to star as prosecuting lawyer, Vincent Bugliosi. They have also reported that long-term friends and collaborators, Harvey and Bob Weinstein will join Tarantino to bring the movie to life.
We can’t wait (but we’re also very scared) to see what Oscar-winning Quentin Tarantino brings to the table. Initial reports have nodded towards a plan to shoot in 2018, so we can probably expect the Manson Family Murder movie to be on our screens in 2019.
