For some reason, we just can’t get enough of thriller movies. Sure, they allow us to lay with our eyes wide open in bed each night and contemplate all of the things that could be moving around our house, but they also get us thinking about EVERYTHING, and that’s kinda cool. We’ll be thinking about life, about the supernatural, about the fact that we are literally floating in space (what the heck is that all about?) and the fact that life isn’t all it seems. That’s exactly what goes through our minds when we watch one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s finest movies, Shutter Island. We don’t wanna give too much away, but a loooooooot goes down on that island. Once you’ve found out for yourself exactly what happens, you might want to check out these movies like Shutter Island for when life is an island, boss.

Jacob’s Ladder (1990)

Movies Like Shutter Island: Jacob's Ladder
One of the main reasons we love Shutter Island is because it really gets us thinking – and we spent most of our viewing time wondering what the heck is going on. If you’re into that kind of thing, you’ll also love Jacob’s Ladder. Trust us. This 1990 movie follows the life of a former Vietnam soldier who finds himself haunted by the events of the war. As his past, present and future come hurtling towards him in the shape of hallucinations and flashbacks, he tries to make sense of his life. However, it’s not as easy as it may seem.

Black Swan (2010)

Movies Like Shutter Island: Black Swan
If you’re looking for movies like Shutter Island and looking for something with a strong female lead, we think we’ve found the perfect movie for you. Because leading ladies rock, right? Especially when they come in the form of Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Black Swan is a psychological horror that follows the life of a ballerina as she goes about her days as a professional dancer. Yet, she has no idea that her latest role – playing the sweet and innocent White Swan within a production of Swan Lake – will turn her life around in a way she could never imagine. Oooh.

Shutter Island is one of those movies that you have to watch a few times to really get to grips with, because one viewing is never enough. Not for a masterpiece like this one. However, in between viewings you might wanna check out these movies like Shutter Island as well. After all, we all need a break from Leonardo DiCaprio every once in a while. Actually, scrap that. We don’t need a break from Leo.
