Zombieland is a 2009 comedy horror along the same lines as Shaun of the Dead that sees us follow the fortunes for four survivors of the zombie apocalypse. It stars Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, and Jesse Eisenberg as a ragtag bunch of survivors trying to get across the country while avoiding the dangers of the flesh-eating zombies who inhabit the world. The movie acts as a survival guide to the zombie apocalypse as well as a hilarious journey where the characters learn to trust one another in a world where nobody trusts anyone. The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
If you like Shaun of the Dead but thought there wasn’t enough horror in it for you, then you might enjoy the Cabin in the Woods. What starts off as a seemingly stereotypical horror movie, where a bunch of teenagers go on a trip to a cabin in the woods, soon turns into something completely different. The first part of the movie feels like a genuine horror movie, but as the plot progresses, you understand there is something else going on. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you entertained the whole way through, and then there are the monsters. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
Like Shaun of the Dead, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is a comedy horror. This time we follow hillbillies Tucker and Dale as they vacation near a lake but are soon unwillingly joined by some dimwitted teenagers. The teenagers presume Tucker and Dale to be crazed hillbillies, intent to harm them and try their best to intimidate them to make them leave them alone. Tucker and Dale try their best to keep to themselves but the teenagers keep passing away in gruesome ways when they are near the pair, further increasing the teen’s fear of the hillbillies. If you like gory scenes and laughing lots, then you’ll love this movie.
28 Days Later (2002)
Shaun of the Dead was a zombie movie set in London in the UK, another zombie movie set in London is 28 Days Later. Not funny like Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later, directed by Danny Boyle, focuses on the horror and zombies. It is a terrifying realization of how the world can descend into madness should the zombie apocalypse ever happen and it introduced the world to even more dangerous zombies than before. Normally zombies are thought of as slow-moving undead creatures that you could easily outrun, in 28 Days Later they literally sprint after people – chilling!
