Monty Python and the Holy Grail was interesting, to say the least. The film followed King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in their utterly ridiculous quest. Quite frankly, we aren’t really sure what was going through the minds of the Monty Python comedy group, nor what the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow is, but what we do know is that if you somehow coped with the insanity that was the Holy Grail, you might enjoy these movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, too.
Movies Like Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python isn’t everyone’s cup of joe, but if it is, then firstly, you have the same peculiar sense of humor as us, and secondly, you’ll love these movies, which are equally as bizarre.
Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979)
It would be rude not to include the sequel to Monty Python’s first slapstick comedy. Brian of Nazareth is born in the stable next to Jesus and is constantly mistaken for the son of God, but he’s not the messiah, he’s a very naughty boy! Just as you’d expect, it’s very similar to the Holy Grail, with an absurd plot and comedy, but if you liked the original, there’s no doubt you’ll love this sequel.
Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983)
If you haven’t had enough of Monty Python by now, then The Meaning of Life is a must-watch. With even more wacky characters than before, this film attempts to uncover the true meaning of life in a series of smaller sketches. We might not understand the meaning behind any of Monty Python’s films but at least they can educate you on the meaning of everything else. Holy Grail lovers are sure to enjoy this one.
Wayne’s World (1992)
Just like Monty Python’s productions, this is a film based on smaller sketches. A pair of unusual rock music fans broadcast a T.V. show to the public from Wayne’s basement and eventually move on to a better – in a loose sense of the word – show. If you liked Holy Grail then you better stop torturing yourself, man, and watch Wayne’s World.
Happy Gilmore (1996)
Whilst Happy Gilmore may have a little more of a normal storyline, shall we say, it still has the same kooky humor. If you’re looking for equally fun movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this might just be the one for you. Actor Adam Sandler desperately wants to be a hockey player, but finds a bigger talent in golf. The entire film oozes comedy, so you don’t just want a piece of it, you want the whole thing. So, I’d suggest keeping off your feet for a few days to watch it, but do whatever you like. What would I know? (I’m just a doctor).
Groundhog Day (1993)
If Holy Grail was your sort of film, then Groundhog Day might be, too. This movie follows a weatherman who relives the same day over and over again, with seemingly no end. It is an entertaining story of transformation and frustration. Whilst it is a considerably more mundane plot than the completely absurd Monty Python productions, it has all the humor and abnormalities you could desire. We definitely recommend watching this one – and we mustn’t keep our audience waiting.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail was certainly unique, but if you’re not quite ready for the madness to end, these five films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail will definitely fill this week’s crazy quota.
