Movies Like Elf to Watch With Your Buddy

Don’t be a cotton-headed ninny-muggins, watch these movies!

Will Ferrell graced our screens once again back in 2003 creating one of the most beloved Christmas films of our time, Elf. Even though it’s been over a decade since the movie’s release, we still think there’s nothing that will help you get into the Christmas spirit more than watching Buddy Hobbs make his way through the streets of New York – the setting of any great Christmas movie. After watching this film, you’ll still plenty of time left before the big day to go all out festive with these movies like Elf.

For people looking to get entirely in the festive mood, these movies like Elf will give you as much Christmas spirit as possible before the big day. Be prepared for plenty of Santas, some tear-jerking moments, and all the feel-good vibes you can handle, as we make our way through the ultimate family Christmas selection.

    The Santa Clause (1994)

Movies like Elf - The Santa Clause

There is no better way to kick off this trilogy of films than at the beginning. Tim Allen plays Scott Calvin as the divorced dad who unexpectedly finds himself landing the most important festive role of anyone on Christmas Eve: Santa Claus. Just like Elf, this film focuses on a father-son relationship as the two have to grow used to Scott’s new (and rather unique) career, but will they be able to make it work? If you want a family movie similar to Elf, there’s no need to look any further.

    Arthur Christmas (2011)

Movies Like Elf - Arthur Christmas

Ah, a true favorite that is fun for all the family. When looking for movies like Elf, this ticks all the boxes. The story is about Arthur who works for Santa Claus, who also happens to be his father. Arthur is full of Christmas spirit and wants to make sure every child gets everything on their wish list but doesn’t know what to do when a child is missed. Will they ever get their present?! This movie also has some more adult-themed jokes that will keep the grown-ups amused while providing good vibes of what Christmas day is all about.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Movies like Elf - How the Grinch Stole Christmas

While you may be thinking the two are polar opposites, hear us out. Yes, Buddy is all about the Christmas spirit while the Grinch wants to ruin it all, but both movies follow the outsider as they try to find their place during the holidays. Like Elf, the Grinch has a comical starring lead only this time the role is played by the legend, Jim Carrey. It is Cindy Lou Who’s job to save Whoville from the Grinch’s evil plan, and she intends to use the power of love and family to save them all. Cute!

    Annie (1982)

    Movies like Elf - Annie

An oldie, but a goodie as Annie follows the story of an orphan looking for a new home. When she is offered the chance to stay with Oliver Warbucks, she jumps at the opportunity. When looking for Christmas movies like Elf, Annie is a perfect addition as the little girl is searching for her family at Christmas time, just like Buddy. This feel-good family film will give the heartstrings a good tug as you find yourself singing along to the various musical numbers.

    Home Alone 2 (1992)

Movies Like Elf - Home Alone 2

Let’s face it; no Christmas movie list would be complete without an ultimate classic. This movie, like Elf, features the story of Kevin whose entire family flies to Florida while he accidentally jets off to New York – like we said, all great Christmas movies need New York as a setting. Kevin sets about making his own perfect Christmas vacation, while still trying to keep the Wet Bandits at bay. If you like Elf, you’ll love Home Alone 2, as both films give you that family Christmas cheer.

Elf is one of the Christmas comedy greats that makes its way onto our screens each year when the festive period rolls around. However, as much as we love Will Ferrell, it can be great to enjoy all-new Christmas films with these movies like Elf. Hopefully, they will be able to continue the festivities in the countdown to Christmas!
