Disney movies are those kinda one-size-fits-all movies that we need in our lives. Feeling sad? Grab a tub of ice cream and watch a Disney movie, friends. Feeling happy? Put on your dancing shoes and sing along to the awesome Disney tunes. Feeling ambivalent towards the whole world and everything in it? Don’t worry, Disney has got your back. One of our fave Disney movies of all time just has to be Aladdin, and you just have to watch these movies like Aladdin for when you want to see a whole new world.

Movies Like Aladdin

With one of the most handsome voices in the Disney repertoire, Aladdin stole our hearts when his movie came onto our screens in 1992 (yep, you really are that old!) This film follows the life of Aladdin himself as he battles his way through living on the streets and stealing scraps of food from the market. At least, that’s what he DID get up to before he stumbled across a genie in a lamp who just happened to be giving away free wishes. As he flies around on a magic carpet with his monkey in tow, he then finds himself in the midst of Princess Jasmine. The rest, they say, is history.

The Return of Jafar (1994)

Movies like Aladdin: The Return of Jafar
If you love Aladdin, then you’ll love The Return of Jafar – because it’s the sequel! Yep, this movie follows on from the first movie and features all of the same characters (although they are voiced by different actors). Because this movie was released as a direct-to-video release, not many people know about it. However, we think that’s a lot of bologna because it’s actually pretty darn awesome. As you can probably tell by the name, this movie largely follows the evil wrongdoings of Jafar, but Aladdin and Princess Jasmine are once again proving to us that they are perfect for us. They really do make us swoon.

The Little Mermaid (1989)

Movies Like Aladdin: The Little Mermaid
Aladdin is all about a man who aspires to be something more than what he is, and that’s kinda the same premise as The Little Mermaid. You know, if Ariel wasn’t a mermaid. While we will never understand the fact that this red-headed beauty wanted to leave her fins behind and become a human (erm, we’d take being a mermaid over a human any day, thanks), her story really is one that we can get behind. The songs are catchy as heck, Ursula is one of the creepiest Disney characters of all time, and Prince Eric makes all of our dreams come true. It really has everything we could possibly need in one movie.

The Lion King (1994)

Movies like Aladdin: The Lion King
Can you feel it? Well, can you? We hope you can feel it because we can also feel the love tonight. If you’re looking for a movie like Aladdin, you need look no further – because Simba has it all covered within his circle of life. This film was released just two years after Aladdin, and it’s safe to say that it’s got a much larger fan following than those in Agrabah. However, we think they both deserve credit for being equally as awesome. Sure, The Lion King will make you cry more times than you would care to admit, but it’s also a beautiful story of loss, friendship, and luuuuurve.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Movies like Aladdin: Beauty and the Beast
I mean, who DOESN’T want to watch a movie about a beautiful bookworm who gets captured by a Buffalo and then ultimately falls in love with him? It’s basically our dream. Yuh-huh, the more you think about Beauty and the Beast, the weirder the story gets. Yet, the whole thing is magical, and you need to remember that there are magical powers involved (just like Genie and his lamp). One of the main reasons we love Beauty, and the Beast so much is because Belle eventually gets to have a giant library of her own. That’s what real dreams are made of because books are life.

Mulan (1998)

Movies like Aladdin: Mulan
If you’re looking for a film like Aladdin, we’ll need to make a man out of you first. Mulan is the kind of movie that you could just watch over and over again because it just gets better every time you watch it. True story. Following the life of Mulan herself, she doesn’t want to stand by and watch her family and her country suffer at the hands of the Huns. So, she decides to man-up (quite literally) and prove to the world that she is just as capable of fighting their enemies as the men are. She’s the ultimate boss, and you need to watch this movie ASAP. Yep, like right now.

We could probably watch Aladdin every single day if we wanted to, but we’re trying to be more adventurous with our lives. So, why don’t you follow in our footsteps and watch these movies like Aladdin? You know you want to…
