Right now, we couldn’t be more excited here at RetroEnt. Christmas is just around the corner, our bodies are basically just 80% hot cocoa and marshmallows, the office is filled with Christmas carols, we’re wrapped up in our favorite scarves, and we’re dreaming of a Grecian summer singing Fernando under the stars. Thankfully, we don’t have to do too much dreaming, as the first official trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is here, y’all!
Yep, Amanda Seyfried is back in full force, and her hair is even more luscious than before (and we’re totes jealous). However, things aren’t all sunshine, daisies and hunky husbands for Sophie, as she’s just discovered that she’s pregnant. N’awww. As Sophie struggles to cope with the news without her mother nearby (more on that in a minute), she looks towards Donna’s Dynamos to help her out. As Tanya and Rosie try to reassure her, we float back in time to witness the story of young Donna.
This new, younger Donna will be played by the wonderfully fabulous Lily James – and it’s fair to say that she has some pipes. As we watch Donna during the best years of her life, we’re also introduced to the younger, hunkier models of Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Harry Bright (Colin Firth) and Bill Anderson (Stellan Skarsgard), and her raunchy exploits that ultimately result in the birth of Sophie. Because after all, if Donna can raise a child on Aphrodite’s island, why can’t Sophie?! So, without further ado, here’s the trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again:
Oh honey, honey, how it teases us! How good does this look, though?!
Alongside the new cast, the new story, and the new music, there are a few things that have taken some fans by surprise. Firstly, a woman who needs no introduction…CHER! Although she has previously hinted that she would appear in the movie, it had not been confirmed – and THAT hair had definitely not been confirmed. Nevertheless, we’re totally vibing off it.
Unfortunately, the questions don’t end there. With Sophie’s cryptic ‘I don’t know how to do this by myself’ quote, and a distinct lack of Meryl Streep in the trailer, fans have been wondering whether Mamma Mia 2 has decided to kill off one of the main characters? If this is the case, the fans aren’t happy. Nope. They’re really not. Just check out their passive aggressive (and incredibly blunt) tweets:
But but how is Meryl not in “Mamma Mia 2” pic.twitter.com/FvrTc5xHFc

Mamma Mia isn’t Mamma Mia without Meryl Streep.

What a great idea to make a sequel to Mamma Mia where Donna Sheridan is dead, said no one ever. https://t.co/ZWBZ7EaNYQ

Although there is no confirmation of whether she has died or not, this isn’t a good sign. We’ll just have to wait to find out…
