Jumanji and Robin Williams go together like peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly (and, you know, other iconic duos) so the thought of the new Jumanji 2 movie without him is pretty daunting to both Jumanji fans and the late Robin Williams fans.
However, a year after the actor’s devastating death, Sony have announced that they will be continuing the storyline of Alan Parrish and honoring Williams’ character. School of Rock star, Jack Black has recently spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about the new movie. He explains that the new Jumanji 2 movie will mostly take place inside the jungle where Alan Parrish was stuck all those years ago after he started playing the infamous game.
We’re exploring this jungle and trying to conquer the game; it’s life or death. But while we’re there, we find clues left behind by [Williams’ character Alan Parrish]. He built up a full-blown jungle house, similar to a Swiss Family Robinson situation. It’s like he’s there helping us without actually being there.
Of course, we all know the original Jumanji movie (and if you don’t, you really need to check yourself before you wreck yourself) and the story that followed the life of Alan Parrish and his intense jungle experience within the board game. And as he’s released 23 years later, things are just as bad…
[In the original] you never get to see the inside world, but this one takes place primarily inside the jungle of Jumanji. That’s the coolest part of the film – we’re able to transport the audience to that secret and wondrous land, with the fanger and the beauty.
The new movie will star Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas, and The Rock has been pretty adamant on social media that this new movie will not be a remake – but will rather be a continuation of the original. Check out his Instagram post (mainly because we just love to look at him).
