After months and MONTHS of speculation, it has finally been revealed who will be playing the coveted role of James Bond. The same guy as before. Yes that’s right, Daniel Craig has NOT left the franchise. Daniel Craig has finally confirmed that he will be returning to play James Bond in the epic franchise. You know, after he said in 2015 that he would never come back to play James Bond…
The news was confirmed after Daniel Craig appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night. Just like hundreds of other reporters, Colbert asked Daniel Craig the age-old question that we all wanted to know – would he be returning to the role? Rather than brush off the question or deny it like he has in the past, Craig shocked us all with his answer.
Yes, I couldn’t be happier. We’ve just been trying to figure things out. I always wanted to. I needed a break.
After appearing in four James Bond films already, fans across the world always wanted Craig to return with his suit, gun and shaken-not-stirred vodka martini in tow – but after an interview with Timeout in 2015, we were getting ourselves ready for a new Bond, because he said THIS:
Now? I’d rather… slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.
Of course, fans didn’t react well to that comment, and Craig soon retracted his first comment and apologized for his use of words. Nevertheless, the rumor mill soon started whirring away with ideas of who could replace the star, as he so obviously didn’t want to return. Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston were just two of the names that were in the pot at one point. One of the men rumored to take over as Bond was Sons of Anarchy hunk, Charlie Hunnam. But just like Craig, Hunnam also denied the rumors.
I can say two things. I’m English and I look devilishly handsome in a suit. [But] nobody has called me about playing James Bond, so I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen.
Well, we can all stop guessing now!
