If you Like Pina Coladas This Shrek News Might Just Make Your Day

Somebody once told me…that Shrek 5 is coming!

Ahhhh, Shrek. The only Ogre we know who has layers like an onion. (In fact, one of the only Ogre’s we know. Apart from Fiona, of course).

When Shrek was first released, it took the world by storm, and the happily-ever-after-gone-wrong fairytale was a hit among children and adults alike. After all, who can resist a talking Donkey, some gum-drop buttons and the three little pigs with German accents? But apart from Shrek 2, the follow-ups of Shrek just didn’t do the movie any justice.

Luckily, Dreamworks Animation is ready to right their wrongs, and the Shrek 5 script is now complete. Shrek 5 comes after Shrek Forever After, the fourth installment of the Shrek franchise, and is said to be one of the biggest yet.

The script has officially been written for the fifth movie but has yet to be accepted by Dreamworks. However, we can’t imagine they’d turn this one down. Written by Michael McCullers, he has since said,

I finished that script which I really, really, really love. It’s really personal to me. It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal.

Ohhh, what a tease. McCullers was the genius behind the Austin Powers movies, so he already has a connection with Mike Myers who plays our favorite green guy. He has also written and directed the likes of Baby Mama, Mr. Peabody & Sherman and is a veteran of Saturday Night Live. So one thing is for sure…it won’t be short on a few laughs.

Because the script has yet to be formally initiated, there is no director attached to the production yet, but we’ve heard through the grapevine that Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn are both extremely interested in being a part of the Shrek 5 process. Mitchell directed Shrek 2 and Dohrn directed Shrek Forever After so we think it’ll be in good hands…

Although there are no definite time or dates, we can envisage a new Shrek movie sometime in 2019, so that gives them just enough time to pick up McCullers’ script, join Mitchell and Dohrn together and do Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Puss-in-Boots proud. We don’t want another spin-off flop, thanks…

So if you like Pina Coladas and gettin caught in the rain, if you’re a believer and need a hero, well you can Live La Vida Loca and keep your eyes peeled for new Shrek 5 news…
