In a year of reboot after reboot fulfilling our cinematic dreams, we’ve still felt like something was missing – we just never quite knew what it was. But now we know. Hellboy.
Mike Mignola, the creator of Hellboy, announced on Facebook this morning that Hellboy is coming back to our screens (yay!). He confirmed that there is a new R-Rated reboot in the works, and we really can’t wait.
And it seems Hellboy will have a big team behind him. Mignola confirmed that the new reboot will be directed by Neil Marshall, the Game of Thrones director, and will star ‘Stranger Things’ Jim Hopper as Big Red. I mean – that is one heck of a cast already.
At the moment, the new movie has the working title of Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen (Ooooh) and will be co-written by Mignola himself, but he is currently in talks with Lloyd Levin and Larry Gordon who currently own the rights to the film.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Hellboy re-appear on our screens, but this is the first time he’ll be brought to life with an all-new writer, director, crew, and all-new everything. The previous two movies were directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred the gravelly Ron Perlman, but neither of these will be part of the new production.
However, initial reports show that we can start to get pretty excited for the brand spanking new reboot, and although we don’t have a release date just yet, it seems Mignola is pretty keen to get started on the project pretty sharpish.
