With all the new movies and reboots getting a bit more love this year, it can be hard to keep up. But Labyrinth 2 is definitely something to get excited about…
The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that yep – a new Labyrinth movie is on the cards. Apparently, the new movie is already in its early stages of development, but it now has a director. IT’S REALLY HAPPENING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
The lucky director of Labyrinth 2 will be Fede Alvarez. Now, you might not have heard his name before, because he doesn’t have that many projects under his belt – but what he has worked on couldn’t be praised any higher if it tried. Alvarez was the man behind the camera in the intense and high-profile thriller, Don’t Breathe, and even co-wrote and directed the Evil Dead remake movie. But with such a big task under his hands – we just hope he’s up for the job.
When the original Labyrinth movie was first released in 1986 – it was a flop. It was produced by Star Wars’ George Lucas, it starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, and had one of the best writers in the biz. But it wasn’t until the ‘90s when it became a cult classic and is now known as one of the best movies in history. So we’re expecting big things from movie number two.
But we’re not too worried. The new movie won’t be a reboot, and it won’t be a remake. Instead, it will be a continuation of the original movie and will pick up where the last movie left off. Although there’s one downside – the new movie won’t feature the Goblin King. But let’s be honest, can anyone really top the late David Bowie? We think not.
Nevertheless, we can’t wait.
