An Epic List of All the Movie Reboots and Remakes in the Works

This is one seriously mammoth list (you’re welcome)

We love nothing better than a movie reboot here at RetroEnt – and so far this year, the remakes have been on top form, so we can expect nothing less for the ones due to come out. Because we’re just too nice, we’ve made it easier for you. Check out this epic list of all the movie reboots and remakes in the works right now. It’s definitely the year of Horrors and Disney live-action…

    Jumanji

Yessss, this makes us so excited! Especially it’s been confirmed that this reboot is REALLY HAPPENING. And just from the cast lineup, we can tell it’s going to be pretty amazing. We’re going to be seeing Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson making their way around the Jumanji board.

    The Lion King

Disney is on a roll with their live-action remakes at the moment, and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. And we’re so okay with it. After his huge success with his Jungle Book live-action remake, Jon Favreau will be heading over to the plains of Africa (but not where the light doesn’t touch, of course) to create a new live-action Lion King movie. We also now know Seth Rogen is going to be in it, which is even more amazing.

    The Matrix

Okay, so before you get too excited, this really is in the earliest of early stages – but a Matrix reboot is definitely a possibility. Apparently, Warner Bros are incredibly interested in bringing The Matrix back to our screens, and they’re currently in talks with Avengers, X-Men: First Class and the Incredible Hulk writer, Zak Penn, to write a treatment.

    Inspector Gadget

Just hearing who the producer of this remake is gets us all excited. The new Inspector Gadget movie will be produced by the same person who did The LEGO Movie – Dan Lin. So far, it’s just Lin on the job, but we expect he’ll find his writer and director pretty soonish. We expect big things. No pressure.

    Friday the 13th

Yep, the masked man will be returning to our screens. But it seems the production company has been pretty picky so far. The script has since been written by three writers, which have then been scrapped. So let’s hope it’s fourth time lucky – because we’re getting impatient. David Bruckner was originally meant to be directing the reboot, but he has since shied away from the project. Does anyone want to work on this movie?

    Sister Act

We’re so up for this reboot. Sister Act is the ultimate classic. Singing nuns? What could be better? The new reboot is currently being written by Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith who wrote the screenplays for The House Bunny and Legally Blonde – but it’s so far unknown as to whether Whoopi Goldberg will be starring in the reboot. We really, really hope she will, it wouldn’t be the same without her.

    Dune

We all loved Dune, right? Well, a Dune remake is definitely on the cards and has even secured its director – Denis Villeneuve, who has previously directed the likes of Sicario and Arrival. At the moment, he’s working on Blade Runner 2049, so we guess once he’s ‘dune’ with that, he’ll be getting his other shizz ‘dune’…

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

You’d think that after the success of the book-to-film adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, producers would go onto the next book in the installment. But it seems they don’t play by the rules. Instead, they will be adapting the fourth book, The Girl In The Spider’s Web, as the new movie. Although initial reports say that neither Daniel Craig nor Rooney Mara will star in it.

    Memento

Let’s be honest, you can watch Memento as many times as you want – but it’ll just never make sense. So maybe the reboot will be a bit easier to follow? The new movie won’t involve Christopher Nolan (*sobs*) but has been taken on by AMBI Pictures. This epic reboot seems to be at the top of their to-do list, so we could be seeing it pretty soon.

    Spider-Man

Which Spider-Man movie is this now? The 20th? Well, due to the new collaboration between Sony and Marvel, Spider-Man will be making a comeback. Again. Tom Holland will continue his role as Spider-Man, and the cast will include the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Jon Favreau, and Marisa Tomei.
