Is this really happening?

Okay, so by now you’ve probably heard about the new The Emoji Movie in development. And let’s be honest, many people are wondering WHY we needed it in our lives – but we have to admit it’s giving us major nostalgia feels… reminiscing about back in the day when this wouldn’t even be a thing.

There are certain things we didn’t expect to hear or repeat on a Wednesday morning, but here we are saying, ‘poop emoji,’ ‘meh emoji’ and ‘Man in Business Suit Levitating Emoji’ because we’ve just seen the new trailer for the movie – and just had to share it with you. The new movie takes on the form of Inside Out, and follows the lives of Emojis in their owner’s phone (I mean, can you own emojis? Emoji handler? Friend? Human? Oh, who knows?).

But when you think about it, why can’t Emojis get their own movie? If Angry Birds and Sausages can get their own movie, so can these smiley faces (and sad, and angry, and cupcake, and poop, and high five and….)

The movie centers around little Gene (yep, Emo-Gene), his best friend Hi-5, and his other friend Jailbreak, who travel through their phone and other apps to sort out his ever-changing expressions. But they have to do it quickly, because their owner is looking to wipe their whole device clean. You really couldn’t make this stuff up.

Although the movie is obviously centered towards a younger audience, we have to admit they’ve got a killer cast. With the likes of James Corden, Anna Faris, TJ Miller, Jennifer Coolidge, Steven Wright on the books, these are the kind of Emojis you’d like to be friends with. And want to know the best part? Sir Patrick Stewart plays the poop emoji – I mean, do you need any more reason to go and watch it?

The Emoji Movie is set to be released in September, and we’ll leave it to you to decide if you fancy it or not…
