Okay, okay, okay… we need to calm down a little bit. AS IF Princess Leia couldn’t get any cooler, it turns out she may have had a space doctorate?! What?!
It’s no secret that we love Star Wars here at RetroEnt (how could you not?) and we love getting new and exciting information about our favorite characters – and this is by far the best news yet. At the weekend, news began to circulate that Princess Leia, Leader of the Rebel Alliance, may actually have another name to add to her CV. Doctor Leia Organa.
The news came after Buzzfeed noticed a tweet from Dr. Becca Harrison (who also has a PhD), who attached a picture of the transcript from a Star Wars documentary, in which Lucas talks about Princess Leia and her space doctorate, which she got at 19-years-old. Here’s the tweet:
Hang on wait what… Leia had a PhD in Star Wars? Christ can you imagine having everyone call you Princess when you were actually Dr Organa pic.twitter.com/HYertPJqWU

So, according to Lucas, Princess Leia was a,
Sophisticated, urbanized ruler, a Senator, so she’s a politician, she’s accomplished, she’s graduated, got her PhD at nineteen and she rules people and is in charge. [I needed an actress] who could be young and play with a lot of authority… and push these guys around.
The tweet has since gone viral, with many people applauding Dr. Leia for her incredible achievements (considering in Earth years that means she would have had to start her PhD at 13-years-old) and George Lucas’s inclusion of this feat – at least in the documentary.
Of course, there was no mention of her PhD in any of the films, leading others to believe that the idea may be a load of space dust – especially since George Lucas is notorious for thinking out ideas before filming, and then scrapping them in production. Could Leia really have a PhD?
Well, best-selling author Claudia Gray, who has currently finished editing her upcoming book, ‘Leia, Princess of Alderaan’ and self-proclaimed Leia expert knows nothing about a PhD. In her response to the news, Gray posted her own tweet.
This would be news to me… https://t.co/yvbZyQV86e

Hmmm, so what do you think? Was Princess Leia really a doctor?
