Death Wish Reboot Could Be the Bruce Willis Comeback We’ve All Dreamt Of

When we first heard there was going to be a Death Wish reboot – yeah, we were pretty dang excited. But we did NOT expect Bruce Willis to adorn their cast list. Not that it’s a bad thing. In fact, we reckon this could be the Bruce Willis comeback we’ve all been dreaming of.

The new remake will star Willis as the lead protagonist, who embarks on a deadly rampage after his family is killed by an act of brutality. The movie stars as a reboot to the 1974 Charles Bronson cult classic, which ultimately inspired the likes of Taken. Could Willis be the Liam Neeson to Taken? Well, director Eli Roth seems to think so. In recent press interviews, Roth has revealed that he wants to be the driving force behind Willis’ iconic comeback into the world of acting.

We wanted to bring back that great, classic Bruce Willis we all know and love and just do a fun, bad*** update of a revered classic. I wanted to bring Bruce back to that Fifth Element, Unbreakable, Die Hard glory and have him craft another iconic performance, and I really think he did it. I mean I really think this can be his Taken.

Although Willis hasn’t disappeared from the big screen (thank goodness) his impact on the cinematic world has certainly been lessened over the past few years, with his appearances in the likes of Previous Cargo, Marauders and First Kill failing to make onto the list of box-office players. But Eli believes this new role is perfect for Willis.

What’s interesting about Death Wish is it’s not a CIA guy who’s coming out of retirement, you know, he’s not John Wick, he’s not a professional assassin. He’s a normal guy, he’s a surgeon, he’s a dad, he’s never picked up a gun in his life. This Paul Kersey learns how to handle steel by watching YouTube videos and at one point almost gets merked by his own ricocheted bullet.

    He continues,

And with each kill as he gets closer to finding the people that did this to his family, he gains a new skill. He gets better and better and better. So by the end of the film he’s really much closer to John McClane…The very things that make him a good surgeon are what eventually makes him a great killer.

Death Wish will also star Vincent D’Onofrio, Mike Epps, Jack Kesy, Dean Norris and Beau Knapp, and is due to be released on November 22. We really hope this could be the ultimate Willis comeback…
