The Addams Family is unlike any other film (or family) out there. Although it was a remake of the TV series; after the movie was first released in the ‘90s, it proved a huge hit, and everyone had their favorite member of the Addams family. (Ours was Wednesday. She just gets us, you know?) The movies also had some big Hollywood stars in them. But as it was released nearly thirty years ago, they’re bound to have changed a bit since their Addams Family days.
Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams
Anjelica Huston played the ominously brilliant head of the Addams Family, Morticia Addams. With her low voice, mysterious features and long dark hair, Morticia was the original goth that thousands aspired to be like. Despite her love of pain and gore, she was a loving wife and a doting mother. She was the best of both worlds, really. We all need a Morticia in our lives.
Anjelica Huston – Now
Anjelica appeared in both of the Addams Family movies and received Golden Globe nominations for both. Go, Anjelica! She is still acting today but nothing as big as Addams family, and has since been in movies like The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. She’s also written two memoirs on her life and times growing up and being an actress. But she’ll always be our Morticia.
Jimmy Workman as Pugsley Addams
Oh, Pugsley. In the Addams Family terms, he was almost the sore thumb of the family. He was your average looking teenage boy (rather than boasting the just-risen-from-the-dead look the rest of his family were sporting) and he wasn’t the brightest spark of the bunch. But we found him entertaining none the less… especially for his willingness to comply with his sister’s evil deeds. Mwah ha ha ha.
Jimmy Workman – Now
Apart from getting taller and thinner… Jimmy Workman looks exactly the same now as he did when he played Pugsley! Workman retired from Hollywood and the world of acting in the early 2000s, but has not strayed too far as he now works behind the scenes within the technical department. And it seems acting talent runs in the family, as his sisters are also actresses – most notably, Ariel Winter from Modern Family.
Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams
Wednesday was a role model for all of the men and women out there who just really didn’t like people. And we loved it. She was the perfect child for Morticia and Gomez and just really loved darkness and torture. And she knew just how to string her brother along. Wednesday’s look has also inspired millions of awesome Halloween costumes.
Christina Ricci – Now
After her time on The Addams Family, Christina Ricci made an easy transition into the world of child acting and became hugely popular – and still is. She has appeared in films like Casper and Monster, as well as appearing on hit TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy. She is also a mother and a spokesperson for RAINN – the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester
Bless Uncle Fester. He only wanted to be loved – is that really a crime? Fester was the big brother of Gomez, and always seems to be the one getting in trouble because of his desire to be loved. Oh, and we definitely can’t forget that toupée. That was something special…
Christopher Lloyd – Now
Of course, we all know Christopher Lloyd as ‘Doc’ from Back To The Future… but that was before The Addams Family. After his role as Fester, Christopher Lloyd has starred in movies like Jack and the Beanstalk, Piranha 3D, A Million Ways To Die in the West, and he has three movies set to be released in 2017.
Joan Cusack as Debbie
*Boo* *Hiss* Debbie was also known as the Black Widow – and we don’t really need to explain that one that much… but she basically killed her husbands, stole their money and then moved onto her next victim. And in this case, Fester was her victim. And we just can’t get over that. We really, really hated Debbie.
Joan Cusack – Now
But we don’t hate Joan Cusack. In fact, she’s one of our favorite actresses! Since her time on The Addams Family, Cusack has gone on to play Jessie in Toy Story 2 and 3, as well as our favorite rockin’ headmistress in School of Rock, and so many more blockbuster movies. She is also the sister of John Cusack – who is just as awesome. We need to get in on those genes.
Carol Kane as Grandmama
Okay, we know her as Grandmama, but she’s actually called Esmerelda. But we’re still going to call her Grandmama. She’s the mother of Morticia, and it’s fair to say she’s absolutely crazy. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the (dead) tree, as there are certain traits in Grandmama that we can definitely see in her daughter…
Carol Kane – Now
Carol Kane is a genius. And she’s most known now for her role as Lillian in the hit Netflix TV show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (hence why she’s a genius). But she’s also been a star on Broadway, and played the role of Madame Morrible in the hit musical Wicked for many years. Could she get any cooler?
Kaitlyn and Kristen Hopper as Pubert
So Pubert was the child you’d like to watch from afar, but you really wouldn’t want to be yours. What other child would have a mustache? Of course, only an Addams Family baby would. Pubert seems to have a real penchant for near death experiences and occasionally likes to shoot flaming arrows around the place. Like we said – from afar, not up close.
Kaitlyn and Kristen Hopper – Now
Wait, but this isn’t a mustached baby boy? Yep, because Pubert was played by a girl – twin girls, in fact. No offense to babies, but you can never really tell at that age whether babies are male or female, so it’s no surprise producers decided to use twin girls. Nowadays, the twins have left Hollywood and now living normal everyday lives… with an awesome added extra on their resumes.
David Krumholtz as Joel Glicker
You wouldn’t think it, but Wednesday Addams had a love interest! Oooooh. I know, we were surprised she had any positive feelings too. But it happened. And Joe Glicker was her guy. He was another camper at Camp Chippewa. Joel is the ultimate nerdy bookworm, which makes him and Wednesday’s crush even weirder. But we also love it.
