To top it off, the markets and festivals bring a whole new aspect of gameplay. It’s no wonder this huge pack starts off the list of the best Sims expansion packs.
7. The Sims: Makin’ Magic
How could we ever forget the original game that had us hooked all those years ago? Sure, the graphics left a lot to the imagination, and it was almost impossible to survive longer than one week, but that’s what made it so great. Makin’ Magic was the final expansion pack released for the game and gave us the chance to explore the mystical side of the world. What could be better than casting spells and charms on your fellow Sims? Nothing, that’s what.
6. Sims 3: Island Paradise
Sure, the game might have had a few teething issues – read: need a supercomputer to load the game, let alone run it without any lag – but that’s only because of the incredible number of things we could do with our Sims in the land of Isla Paradiso. Run a resort, become a lifeguard, and live on a houseboat are just some of the many options for Simmers. However, if you want to take things a little deeper then why not transform into a mermaid? Now, there is a whole new way to enjoy this incredible world for all its glory.

4. The Sims 3: Generations
As much as we love to play with our Sims, expanding the family and watching them grow up is a real pull to the game. This makes Generations the perfect sims expansion pack in our minds. The pack bought us graduations, proms, and even mid-life crisis’ for the older sims. That’s not all. Generations also includes a host of extra gameplay, such as signing up to after-school clubs and parents being able to ground their children. There is so much to this pack we just couldn’t leave it off the list.
3. The Sims 2: Pets
Sure, there have been three pets expansion packs so far, but Sims 2: Pets has to take third place on our list. For the first time, these animals were given traits and personalities of their own as they grew to become part of our families. There were so many options on breeds, sizes, and temperaments that it was hard to ignore the call of a four-legged addition to the home. To top it off, these animals could even sign up to one of three careers. We might not have a showbiz dog at home, but we could have it all in the Sims 2: Pets.
2. The Sims 2: University
So which pack just misses out on the top spot? One of the joys of growing up for many of us is heading off to university. Now, we can do all of that with our Sims by our side. Remember all those Chinese takeouts, juice parties, and part-time jobs? Well, now so do your Sims. University had to earn the second spot on the best Sims expansion packs thanks to the level of detail put into the world. We could choose to live in dorms and make money on the side in the cafeteria or earn ourselves a place in a sorority house. Whatever floats your boat.
