Yep, it’s official. Sonic Mania is the best game EVERRRRRRRR! The little blue hedgehog has done it again, and we can only imagine we’re going to spend the next ten years obsessing over golden rings, special bonus stages and time attacks. Because, you know, we’re cool like that.

The new footage of Sonic Mania’s awesome new special stages, bonus stages and time attack has been unleashed onto the world on the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account, as well as their YouTube channel.

The special stages will allow Sonic to run around a 3D space (yes, just like you did in Sonic CD!) and can be found by entering a giant hidden ring that will appear on each Sonic level. But it’s not all fun and games, because during these stages you’ll have to chase down a pretty speedy UFO to obtain the Chaos Emerald – while, of course, dodging everything that tries to hinder your mission. And according to sources, it doesn’t stop there. The Mercury News have discovered that to boost your speed you need to keep an eye out for blue balls, and to increase your time you’ll need to collect the rings!

Sonic Mania’s Time Attack can be achieved by hitting a specific box with one of your blue rings. This will then transport you over to a new area (this will be decided by your character. Sonic, Knuckles and Tails will all be transported to different places) to race to beat your highest times. Will you get to the top of the leaderboard?

You can get to the Sonic Mania bonus stages by finding the sparks above the checkpoints – and jumping into them! Once you’re inside the bonus stage, you’ll need to collect all of the blue spheres around the area to turn them red. Then, you’ll need to avoid the red spheres. But if you turn a group of blue spheres into red spheres, you’ll be rewarded with extra rings. How cool is that?!

Sonic Mania will be released on August 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
