When SEGA added a little something to their website on Saturday, April 1st, we thought it was an April Fool. But luckily for us, it’s still there.
On Saturday, the mastermind that is SEGA decided to tease its fans with a little 2D shooter game called 8-Bit Bayonetta on Steam. But this wasn’t a new game; we’d already seen it before as a Web game. So what was the big deal?
Well, this downloadable shooter game contained clues. Devout fans found that within the contents of the game, SEGA had included clues – a bit like a treasure hunt – towards a ‘Coming Soon’ Countdown on their website. Oooh, they are crafty. And the best part is…the countdown ends on Tuesday 11th April 2017.
So what could this timer be counting down? If you look closely behind the timer, you may be able to make out a small foot behind it. Bayonetta’s foot. This has led researchers and fans to the conclusion that they will be releasing a new version of the Bayonetta game. But before you get too worked up, they’ve also noted that this new game is 99.9% going to be a PC version of the original Bayonetta game, rather than a completely new game. The old artwork tells us this. Which is a shame, but we can deal with it.
This isn’t the first time SEGA have switched up the Bayonetta game. The original game was remastered for the Wii U after the release of Bayonetta 2, and so fans believe that the new PC game will include all of the new and improved features from the Wii U version.
We still don’t know if there will be an all-new Bayonetta game coming out soon, as SEGA seem to be going back to basics. But it’s a popular game, so you never know what’s going to happen. We can only keep our fingers crossed.
But we’re keeping an eye on that timer because we’re definitely playing the new game on Tuesday. Yes, sir.
