This platform game first graced our screen back in 1998 when it was released for the Nintendo 64, but the re-release of this classic in 2008 made us realize how much we’d missed the bear and bird team. This platform game saw players collecting music notes as they travel around the levels at their leisure in the build-up to facing off with Gruntilda the Witch. If you’re looking for a new platform game, then check out these games like Banjo-Kazooie for inspiration.
Games Like Banjo-Kazooie
We have listed a number of adventure platform games like Banjo-Kazooie where all the family can enjoy collecting items and defeating the bad guys before it’s too late. These simple games have been a family favorite for their simplicity, while they can still leave a number of troublesome puzzles to be solved.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010)
A Mario game, what a perfect start to the list! This game is like Banjo-Kazooie for various reasons, including its use of different levels the player can explore. It is Mario’s job to travel around the galaxy in search of Power Stars. These will allow the hero to rescue Princess Peach from the center of the universe in an epic showdown with Bowser. Similar to Banjo-Kazooie, Mario cannot complete his mission alone as he requires the help of some of his beloved friends.
Ratchet and Clank (2016)
Looking for games like Banjo-Kazooie, Ratchet and Clank fits the bill perfectly. Both pairs travel with one of the team members on their back as they run around the levels collecting items, this time nuts, bolts, and screws to help upgrade your collection of weapons. The humor between the two main characters is just like that in Banjo-Kazooie, only this time the story is told by the story’s enemy, Captain Qwark, as he relives the tale of what happened to land him in prison.
From the minds behind Banjo-Kazooie, we are brought Yooka-Laylee. The game is similar to Banjo-Kazooie in nearly every way as the chameleon and bat must work together to complete challenges and make their way through the different platform levels in search of the golden pages the evil Capital B wants to use to monetize. If you love Banjo-Kazooie, it’s pretty safe to say you’ll love Yooka-Laylee for the similar gameplay and storylines.
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (2003)
Going old school, this release of Rayman can offer up one of many games like Banjo-Kazooie. Rayman must travel the land collecting gems with the help of his trusty sidekick, Globox, on their mission to put a stop to Andre. Like Banjo-Kazooie, Rayman uses the help of his sidekick to perform moves he wouldn’t otherwise be able to, such as gliding around the levels. This multi-platformed game offers hours of entertainment as you make your way through the different puzzles.
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier (2009)
Playing as the duo, it is your job to repair our broken ship that was damaged by an epic pirate battle. With games like Banjo-Kazooie the sidekicks are everything, and here Daxter often hitches a ride on his friends back as the pair travel around together. The pair must work out how they can repair all the damage before they can fight the various enemies – including sky-pirates (!) – as they try and put a stop to Skyheed’s dastardly plan.
These platform games like Banjo-Kazooie will help bring the childhoods we so desperately miss back to life in a whole new way. When it comes to nostalgia, Banjo-Kazooie will always be one of our favorites, but when we complete it for the hundredth time, we now have plenty more options to keep us entertained.
