We PROMISE to look after it this time!

Yes, you read that right. And they’re bigger and better. (I know, we didn’t think they could get any better, either). So stop what you’re doing, control your heavy breathing, and reminisce about the OG Tamagotchi.

If you grew up in the ‘90s, you probably had a Tamagotchi – or five. They were the ultimate virtual reality handheld game that let you look after your own animated pets. It was the kind of game that was so addictive, that you probably had to have it confiscated multiple times as you tried to feed your Tamagotchi under the desk in class…

The toys slowly went out of fashion, and as we grew up we seemed to forget about our little pets, but it seems they’re now making a comeback! And we vow to look after them this time. For sure.

The Japanese toymaker brand, Bandai, have now unleashed a new, updated version of the game – will just a few changes. The new Tamagotchi will feature the six original pets, and will keep the low-resolution retro graphics that we all know and loved. The new Tamagotchis have been released to celebrate Tamagotchis 20th birthday (which makes us feel super old). The only thing that’s really different about this new version is the fact that it’s half the size of the original game. Which is even better for hiding under the desk…

Between 1996 and 2010, a whopping 80 million Tamagotchis had been sold worldwide, so we can imagine this new, updated version will fly off the shelves in no time – and it can be yours for 2,000 yen ($18 or £14) on Amazon Japan. So dust off your nurturing skills, and prepare to feed, poop, mate and play with your new virtual pet.
